ESSENTIAL SKILLS/ EXPERIENCE

Qualifications in Accounting
CA/ CPA or progress towards one of these qualifications would be highly regarded
Highly developed analytical skills
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple and complex deliverables on a daily basis
Exceptional attention to detail with the ability to think innovatively and solve problems
Displays high-level customer service skills with effective communication and interpersonal skills when
relating to students and staff
Strong Excel skills
Previous experience in an Accounting Firm or within the finance team of a commercial organisation.

Responsibilities:

THE ROLE

Canberra Girls Grammar School is currently seeking to fill two Accountant roles within the Finance Team.
The Accountant will be responsible for providing support to the Chief Operating Officer with the day to day
operation of the School’s financial and accounting processes. This will include work on the School’s budget
cycle, routine financial reporting functions and assisting with reporting and processes to ensure that the
School meets all financial regulatory and reporting requirements.
The ideal candidate for this role will be able to work collaboratively as part of a small team. Possessing strong
organisational skills and the ability to prioritise tasks, you will be able to demonstrate personal initiative whilst
maintaining a strong attention to detail.

DUTIES

It is the nature of the work at Canberra Girls Grammar School that tasks and responsibilities are, in many circumstances,
unpredictable and varied. All staff are therefore expected to work in a flexible way when the occasion arises and
undertake tasks that are not specifically covered in the job description.
Assist in preparation of financial reporting, including monthly reports, budget preparation and
management, forecasts and audits
Preparation of regular expenditure reports to Directors and Head of Faculties, including responding to
queries
Monthly reconciliation of general ledger accounts including investigating and resolving reconciling
adjustments
Bank reconciliations undertaken on a daily basis
Assist in the preparation of statutory returns including but not limited to Financial Questionnaire,
Grant Acquittal Statements, BAS, FBT Return
Undertake other accounting and financial management
Assist in the development, updating and implementation of processes and procedures for the Finance
Team that reflect best practice
Assist with the preparation of Annual Budgets
Monthly reconciliation of credit card acquittals including processing charges, liaising with credit card
holders to ensure all acquittal paper work attached and following up any missing items or
discrepancies
Support the accounts receivable and payable functions, including billing and reconciliations as
required
Have a strong Customer Service focus with the ability to build and maintain effective communication
with all members of staff, students, parents and suppliers
Other duties as directed by the Chief Operating Officer or Principal

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

As a member of the School’s support staff, the Accountant will also be responsible for the quality and
management of their own work in line with School expectations. This will include:
Responding to all enquiries in a professional and timely manner
Maintaining positive and professional relationships with all School stakeholders
The ability to prioritise and manage work to ensure that deadlines are met
