We’re seeking an experienced Analytical Chemist to support organics and PFAS testing in our environmental laboratory in Reading, PA. In this role, you will perform analytical testing, method development, and data validation on water and wastewater samples for PFAS and other organic analytes, ensuring the accuracy and quality our clients rely on for regulatory compliance and decision-making. Using advanced extraction techniques and instrumentation, you will generate precise, defensible data in a fast-paced laboratory environment. You will also contribute to method optimization and continuous improvement initiatives while maintaining data integrity within LIMS and adhering to QA/QC standards to deliver reliable, high-quality results. What You’ll Do Perform sample preparation and analysis in accordance with EPA methods, SOPs, and QA/QC protocols Conduct testing for PFAS compounds and other organic analytes using LC-MS/MS instrumentation Execute extraction techniques, including solid phase extraction (SPE) and related methodologies Operate, calibrate, and maintain LC-MS/MS systems to ensure optimal performance and data quality Perform quality control checks, calibrations, and preventative maintenance Review and validate analytical data, identifying trends and out-of-specification results Document results in LIMS, ensuring data integrity, traceability, and compliance Maintain chain-of-custody and sample tracking documentation Troubleshoot routine instrumentation and method issues Maintain a safe, clean, and compliant laboratory environment Perform other duties as assigned Requirements What We're Looking For Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Environmental Science, or related scientific field 5+ years of hands-on experience with LC-MS/MS (strongly preferred), GC-MS, or GC instrumentation Demonstrated experience in PFAS and/or organic analytical testing, including sample preparation, and extraction techniques (e.g., SPE) Proven experience supporting method optimization and continuous improvement initiatives Ability to interpret quality control (QC) data and implement appropriate corrective actions Proficiency with LIMS and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook) What You'll Need To Succeed Strong attention to detail with a focus on data integrity and accuracy Ability to manage high sample volumes and shifting priorities while meeting turnaround times Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills Organized, process-driven approach with adherence to SOPs and quality standards Ability to work independently and as part of a team Strong communication and accountability Commitment to safety and compliance What We Offer Competitive hourly pay Medical, dental, and vision coverage 401(k) with company match Employer-paid life, AD&D, and disability insurance Generous paid time off, sick leave, and paid holidays Paid parental leave Employee Assistance Program (EAP) Tuition reimbursement and professional development support Schedule & Work Environment Full-time, on-site role; Monday–Friday, 8 AM – 4:30 PM Flexibility to work extended hours, evenings, or weekends as needed Routine handling of environmental samples (including wastewater and soil) and laboratory chemicals; appropriate PPE is provided and required Our Commitment to Diversity and Inclusion At SPL, we believe that a diverse team is a strong team.
