Job Overview
Working under moderate supervision, we have multiple job opportunities available for an early to midcareer client / server Application Developers to be part of our Core Application Delivery team and contributes to Wawanesa success by maintaining, supporting and enhancing business systems and applications.

The Core Applications team provides foundational functionality, typically "systems of record" that are used directly by internal Wawanesa employees and as reliable data sources for our external applications.

The ideal candidate will enjoy working in a small agile scrum team model that facilitates rapid design, development and implementation of application changes that embodies a passion for continuous improvement and test-driven development. You will have experience in client/server applications design and development and have relevant technical proficiency with software technologies/tools such as Java.

Job Responsibilities

Design, develop, and test software.

Prepare technical specifications from requirements.

Ensure successful completion of developer assignments by estimating and tracking progress of assigned work.

Maintain the operation of business systems and applications.

Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve application incidents.

Participate in planning activities.

Create and update relevant documentation.

Improve upon and ensure the adherence to the established practices, processes, and guidelines.

Keep current with relevant technologies.

Mentor other Application Developers

Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Combination of completed post secondary degree or diploma in software developer or related academic and/or 2 to 4 years of practical experience performing an application development role building software using current programming languages/techniques and working with relational database systems and structured query languages.

Detail oriented with analytical and problem-solving skills to recognize and identify issues and take proper action to resolve them.

Effective communication skills, with the ability to communicate in a clear and concise manner with style fitting for the audience and message.

Strong ability to work collaboratively in a team environment by making quality contributions and supporting fellow team members.

Strong organizational skills with the ability to self-manage a fluctuating workload, with various situations and changing priorities.

Possesses a willingness to learn while keeping abreast of developments in field and apply learning to new situations.

Experience using software development tools, such as JIRA, Confluence, Source Code Management is considered an asset.

Experience with Unix; Windows; Oracle; Microsoft SQL Server; is considered an asset.

Certifications in relevant technology is considered an asset.

Knowledge and experience in the Insurance industry is considered an asset.
