Abbott currently has an opportunity for an Associate Director, Global Data Science & Analytics (GDSA). The preferred location is in Sylmar, CA, with an alternative location in Santa Clara, CA

PREFERRED EDUCATION/TRAINING

Ph.D. and 8+ years of experience or MS and 10+ years of experience in biomedical engineering, health/biomedical sciences, epidemiology, bioinformatics, biostatistics, public health, or related field.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE/TRAINING

  • Minimum overall 10 years of working experience with progressive roles in clinical research, biomedical research, health economics and outcomes research, or data science in healthcare
  • Proven experience in leading healthcare research with a broad demonstrable knowledge of digital/analytics technologies and disciplines
  • Experience leading teams and managing multi-site development projects
  • Track record of building high-performing teams and making effective decisions
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

Responsibilities:

WHAT YOU’LL DO

The Associate Director, GDSA will be responsible for overseeing data science activities related to an Abbott cardiovascular medical device business, such as Electrophysiology or Heart Failure. Data science activities include those related to real-world evidence, health economics research, business analytics, and digital health. As a senior leader of the GDSA team, the Associate Director will collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to identify business needs, develop strategy, identify appropriate data sources and analytic methods, and deliver on specified timelines. The Associate Director will lead a cross-functional team of clinical researchers, data scientists, and data engineers in project planning and execution. In addition, the Associate Director will interact with key opinion leaders in the healthcare space, including physicians, regulators, and payors.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collaborate with senior leaders within a business unit across functional domains to understand business needs and develop strategy, with the goal of reducing the burden of clinical trials by generating clinical and economic evidence with the use of real-world data.
  • Understand varied data types, including clinical study data, electronic health records, remote device monitoring data, and insurance claims data.
  • Investigate and develop new best practices and methodologies.
  • Partner with leaders in clinical affairs, regulatory, medical affairs and marketing for project selection and prioritization.
  • Communicate with regulatory agencies and payer organizations on real-world studies.
  • Cultivate relationships with key opinion leaders in the healthcare industry.
  • Oversee preparation of conference presentations and scientific manuscripts.
  • Oversee preparation of real-world evidence protocols and reports for regulatory agencies.
  • Support digital health and data science initiatives that deliver clinical and business insights.
  • Manage timelines and deliverables for a portfolio of projects.
  • Serve as a functional manager to scientists.
