Job Overview & Purpose:

  • Partner with the relevant Wholesale management team member, relationship manager or Product Head/Manager in the preparation of credit submissions for Wholesale clients. This includes not only making an assessment of a customer’s credit profile but also providing support in regard to the choice of the most appropriate loan structure and providing a joint recommendation to 2nd line for approval.
  • Assist with strategic initiatives to drive growth, contribute to process improvements and participation in projects.

Context of Job:

  • Wholesale in the Region Australia and New Zealand (RANZ) comprises Core Lending (CL), Portfolio Management (PM), Value Chain Finance (VCF), Markets and Sustainable Business Development. The primary focus of Wholesale Banking is lending activities to the Food & Agribusiness (F&A) sector and Energy Transition sector. This business focus aligns with Rabobank Group’s objective of being a specialist provider outside the Netherlands of financial services to major F&A clients around the world.
  • The primary role of an Associate Director Portfolio Management (AD PM) analyst is to (a) facilitate and support Wholesale in realising its strategic ambition; (b) participate in deal teams and prepare credit submissions and perform pro-active risk management/monitoring; (c) ensure that activities are based on a robust risk framework and a strong risk culture. The AD PM position is in the business and hence part of the first line of defence.”

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
Credit Application Preparation and Risk Assessment

The AD PM is responsible for the analysis and evaluation of credit quality and rating of the counterparty as evidenced by financial analysis and individual research. The AD PM works in conjunction with with the responsible Relationship Manager in the preparation of the credit submission. The roles of the Relationship Manager and AD PM are as such closely linked but at the same time separate and independent. The responsibilities include:

  • Preparation of high quality and concise credit submissions with particular focus on data quality and integrity.
  • Assessment of proposal in compliance with Credit Risk Policies & Standard, Underwriting Criterial and Risk Appetite
  • Analysis of Business Risks including non-financial risks (sustainability, client related integrity risks, Management assessment).
  • Analysis of Financial Risks including critical analysis of historical and forecast financial performance with appropriate sensitivities conducted.
  • Analysis of Group structure risks.
  • Determination of credit risk parameters including:
  • Credit Risk Classification (CRC)
  • Probability of Default (Risk Rating)
  • Loss Given Default (LGD) and Exposure at Default (EaD).
  • Client Profitability Assessment – Risk Adjusted Return on Capital (RAROC).
  • Provide an opinion on credit submissions and/or credit profile of a customer with a well-developed, justifiable motivation
  • Client Monitoring
  • Completion of annual credit reviews in a timely manner (overdue reviews maintained within risk tolerance levels).
  • Ensure special conditions/covenants are recorded and monitored and satisfied in a timely manner.
  • Continuous attention to data quality recorded in the system and correct or update where required. Other Activities
  • Establish strong working relationships with all stakeholders including attending customer meetings where appropriate. In conjunction with the relationship managers identify customer opportunities (including target names).
  • Participate in the identification opportunities for continuous improvement and initiatives to implement.
  • Identify value add opportunities independently and/or with stakeholders (e.g. Research).
  • Participate in projects and/or assist the Directors Portfolio Management in project and strategic initiatives.
  • Assist new team members with procedural matters and systems use.
  • Other duties as directed/required from time to time.
  • Qualifications:
  • Finance/accounting degree with a post qualifying degree favourably viewed
  • Experience:
  • Minimum 6-7 years’ experience in a banking environment with exposure to Corporate/ Institutional clients either as a credit analyst, credit approval or in another relevant capacity
