Description:

Wells Fargo is seeking an Underwriting Senior Manager as part of the National Underwriting Team within Auto Originations. Wells Fargo’s Consumer Lending line of business includes Home Lending, Auto, Credit Cards, Retail & Merchant Services, Personal Lending, Consumer Lending Control, and Consumer Lending Shared Services. This leader will be responsible for managing a team of approximately 75 underwriting professionals that support our auto lending quality, productivity, and service standards for Indirect underwriting decisions. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated track record in building high-performing underwriting teams that drive business results through effective leadership and team member engagement. This collaborative leader must be capable of initiating action and managing change. It requires a leader with strong relationship management, influencing, vision and execution skills. Leader must possess strong auto business acumen with ability to balance business growth and efficiency with managing risks within Wells Fargo’s risk appetite while supporting an outstanding customer experience. In this role, you will:

  • Manage and develop teams of individuals and managers in Underwriting
  • Review lending decisions for adherence to established guidelines and ensure conformity to credit policies and procedures
  • Strong credit acumen with the proven experience to use data analytics to make recommendations / decisions
  • Demonstrated ability to identify, analyze and solution complex problems
  • Review and recommend credit decisions exceeding assigned staff lending limits
  • Identify opportunities for development and improvement in the team functions
  • Monitor and review underwriting and portfolio performance
  • Make decisions and resolve issues related to business operations
  • Work across the organization to collaborate to improve efficiency and resolve credit issues
  • Manage allocation of people and financial resources for Underwriting
  • Develop and guide a culture of talent development to meet business objectives and strategy

Required Qualifications, US:

  • 6+ years of Underwriting experience or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
  • 3+ years of Management experience

Desired Qualifications:

  • Extensive experience in Indirect auto lending with a large financial institution
  • Knowledge and understanding of auto lending practices, policies, and procedures
  • Experience leading the development and execution of underwriting programs and initiatives enterprise-wide while managing risk and ensuring regulatory and policy compliance
  • Highly refined communicator, with experience presenting information in a manner that persuades, educates, and enhances understanding at all levels
  • Experience in problem analysis, solution implementation, and change management
  • Virtual leadership experience with ability to effectively manage and engage teams, drive results, provide feedback, direction, and manage and build relationships with leaders, senior level stakeholders and team members in a geographically dispersed team environment
  • Experience assessing current processes/procedures and make recommendations for efficiency
  • Proven ability to effectively influence, partner, and negotiate at all internal organizational levels to gain commitment to accomplish business goals
  • Proven ability to lead during times of ambiguity and change
  • Management experience in an matrixed organization environment
  • Strong business acumen with proven ability to facilitate high impact conversations, navigate conflict and negotiate for an outcome that balances the needs of the business

Job Expectations:

  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time
  • Willingness to work on-site at stated location on the job opening
  • This position offers a hybrid work schedule
