Job Title: Flaten Art Museum Collections Assistant (WS) Classification: Student Employee (non-exempt) Name and Address of Employer: St. Olaf College, 1520 St. Olaf Ave, Northfield, MN 55057 If the position requires the student to work off campus, provide the name and address here: Department Name: Flaten Art Museum Unit Number (5 digits): 11784 Length of Position: See Employment Authorization   Contact Person/Supervisor: Collections Manager at the Flaten Art Museum Wage Range: $11.75-12.75/hour Description of the Position: (Purpose of the Position):  The student employee will gain broad hands-on experience in records management and collections management and care.  Transferable Skills:  * Teamwork * Art Handling/Installation * Written and oral communication skills * Problem-solving * Creativity * Attention to detail Duties and Responsibilities:  * Provide support to the Collections Manager of Flaten Art Museum and its art collection * Assist the Collections Manager with day-to-day tasks of recordkeeping, care and maintenance of the Museum collections * Enter information on condition, dimensions, marks, etc. into collection management software, EmbARK * Create storage mounts for 2D and 3D objects; training provided * Transport artwork around campus using carts * Help with collections accessioning process including registering, conditioning, and photographing acquisitions  * Conduct ongoing research of Museum objects including creating provenance records and researching artist and donor information  * Assist with collections inventories of art on campus and works in storage * Archive and store Museum records, files, CDs, and books * Light repair to artworks and their support/mount/frame  * Other duties as assigned Qualifications: (Education/Experience/Skills)  * Demonstrated record of dependability and conscientiousness * Attention to visual detail and confidence with hands-on tasks * Strong interpersonal communication skills Physical and Environmental Factors: This position requires crouching, kneeling/crawling, stooping, twisting/pivoting, climbing/balancing, reaching overhead, grasping/handling, pushing/pulling, lifting and carrying objects up to 20 lbs., and operating hand tools to perform the essential functions. It also requires exposure to loud noise, chemicals, vibrations, proximity hazards, and heights or cramped quarters, as well as rare exposure to respiratory factors and wet or humid conditions indoors to perform the essential functions.
