The Child and Family Health Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS2) works as part of the NSLHD Child and Family Health Secondary Level Service within the community-health based, multidisciplinary Child and Family Health Service. The CFH Secondary Level Service is an early intervention service for children whose family have more complex psychosocial vulnerabilities and needs.
The CNS2 applies specialist clinical knowledge to undertake comprehensive, child and development checks and parent/carer assessments using a family partnership approach to develop child and family centred goals and interventions which address complex health, development, and psychosocial needs. The service is provided, in families’ homes. virtually, or in-centre from the antenatal period to when children go to school.
The role provides clinical leadership, acting as a professional role-model and mentor for other CFH nurses, multidisciplinary service colleagues and students. The CNS2 will also contribute to complex service issues including clinical practice and patient safety reviews, and quality improvement initiatives designed to enhance client outcomes, in collaboration with their Sector NUM and broader CFH service.
