This position involves providing assistance and information to the general public and staff regarding recycling, organic waste/garbage sorting and collection, and a wide variety of recycling opportunities at the Burnaby Eco-Centre. Employees of this class perform a variety of clerical tasks such as preparing service requests, maintaining related files, records and data. Operates a variety of different software (e.g. Infor, GIS Maps, and SAP) to support Solid Waste and Recycling operations. This position deals with both external and internal customers via telephone, email, and letters. The position provides information concerning by-laws and departmental rules and regulations to the public that govern activities in the department concerned. Performs other related work when required.
Qualifications include the completion of Grade 12, preferably supplemented by or including standard commercial courses, some experience in a customer service role, and experience in general office and clerical work; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Sound knowledge of the rules and regulations that govern activities in the department concerned. Sound knowledge of modern office practices and procedures. Sound knowledge of filing, indexing, and recordkeeping related to duties performed. Ability to establish and maintain satisfactory working relationships with the public and other employees. Ability to make minor decisions in accordance with related bylaws and regulations and departmental policies and procedures. Ability to learn assigned clerical tasks readily, to adhere to prescribed routines, and to develop some skill in the operation of common office appliances. Skill in filing, sorting, checking, and maintaining office records (e.g. service requests). Ability to prioritize work effectively; good attention to detail; and the ability to work as part of a team and independently is considered an asset. Experience in the use of Infor, GIS Map, and SAP is an asset.
