Description:

The Research Associate, IBTI position is responsible for overseeing all research and scholarship initiatives conducted within or in collaboration with the IBTI and will assist with educational initiatives within the IBTI. The successful candidate will work closely with a variety of Atlantic Health departments and facilities as well as external stakeholders to devise, structure, conduct and complete research and educational projects involving healthcare simulations, as well as produce scholarly work relating to such projects. This includes conceptualizing original ideas for research projects and structuring/restructuring current IBTI training and educational activities in the form of research. Preparation of research proposals and protocols for review by oversight parties including but not limited to the Institutional Review Board (IRB). The successful candidate will maintain all related records and periodically report on the progress of each project. In addition, the successful candidate will be expected to assist with educational projects and produce scholarly outputs for such projects in the form of research posters, professional presentations, peer-reviewed manuscripts, book chapters and other similar works.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide oversight of all research conducted within or in collaboration with the IBTI.
  • Identify opportunities for conducting research within or in collaboration with the IBTI.
  • Recruit research teams necessary for conducting research within the IBTI. These include principal investigators, co-investigators and research assistants.
  • Prepare research protocols and all necessary documentation including IRB applications and records required to begin research.
  • Ensure that all research IBTI involving human subjects is submitted to and approved by the Atlantic Health Institutional Review Board (IRB).
  • Assist in designing and delivering educational materials and modules related to the IBTI.
  • Maintain all documentation and records associated with IBTI related research and educational projects.
  • Facilitate effective collaboration among team members to ensure research and educational projects progress to completion.
  • Maintain an inventory database of all IBTI research and education projects.
  • Provide period reporting on the status of all IBTI research and education.
  • Ensure that research teams are engaged in converting research and educational projects into scholarships in the form of poster presentations, conference presentations, peer reviewed manuscripts and book chapters.
  • Other related duties as determined in collaboration with the IBTI manager and director.
  • A master’s degree, preferably in education, simulation or a clinical discipline.
  • An understanding of the preparation and submission of research protocols to the IRB and follow through to ensure eventual IRB approval.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of, and experience with, best practices of healthcare education, literature review and research methods.
  • An established track record of scholarly output including published peer-review manuscripts pertaining to simulations in healthcare.
  • Exceptional interpersonal written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple projects simultaneously within a fast-paced environment.
  • Self-directed with the ability to work independently.
  • Two or more years of patient care experience as a paramedic, EMT, simulation technician or operating room technician required.
  • Technical / mechanical aptitude and the ability to operate MAC, PC and Windows platform computer systems.
  • Background in medical technology, emergency medical procedures, or critical care preferred.
