JOB DESCRIPTION

The Cost Accounting Analyst is responsible for the administration, development and implementation of all cost accounting and analysis including but not limited to development of standard costs, review of manufacturing variances, reporting and analysis of sales and gross margin, monitoring of inventory related transactions, inventory valuation, creating data analysis and tracking tools as it relates to operations including labor, material usage and overhead. This position supports and assists department managers in decision-making regarding inventory costs and gross margin analysis. The position will also support general closing activities, financial forecasts, and productivity & inventory projects. They will report to the Controller and work closely with the Director of Operations as well as the Sales teams. This is an on-site position.

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting is required
  • Advanced skill in Excel
  • Understand various accounting process flows in order to create and implement new processes, policies & procedures
  • Interface effectively with other employees from production to the senior staff level, across multiple departments
  • High attention to detail and maintaining accurate information
  • Ability to multi-task and be proactive and results driven in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and ability to work in a cross-functional team environment.
  • Detailed oriented with a high standard of excellence in all activities.
  • Fast learner with willingness and openness to learn new skills.
  • Collaborative approach to be able to positively interact with all departments

Responsibilities:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for all cost accounting functions including bills of materials, direct and indirect labor, overhead rates and absorption, product cost development. Performs various general accounting activities, including but not limited to journal entries and account reconciliations for assigned areas
  • Supports month-end close & post close responsibilities including journal entries, account reconciliations and plant performance / variance reporting
  • Confirms that book closings are accomplished within an acceptable time schedule
  • Identify variances to plan, causes for variances and other cost-related issues
  • Partner with other relevant functions, such as Procurement and Operations, to update costs for materials, labor, and overhead
  • Perform inventory valuation steps as part of normal close process including reconciliations, valuation analysis, post journal entries, and prepare financial reports
  • Analyze costs including raw material, inventory, shipping, and labor
  • Accountable for recording the cost of newly-acquired fixed assets, tracking existing fixed assets, recording depreciation, and accounting for the disposition of fixed assets
  • Assist with the forecasting process related to inventory and cost of sales
  • Review Manufacturing Work Order and performance variances daily and reconcile monthly
