WHAT’S THE ROLE?

SMS are looking for a Data Analyst to join the business at a very exciting and fast-paced time. This role is centred on delivering accurate, timely, and insightful data analysis to support strategic decision-making across the Electric Settlement Services department. You’ll be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining a suite of recurring and ad hoc reports that provide clear visibility into performance, trends, and business opportunities.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Locate, examine, clean, and analyse large datasets related to the SMS and out customer’s portfolios.
  • Support data quality assurance processes to ensure compliance with industry regulations and standards.
  • Support regulatory and compliance audits by providing required data extracts and analyses.
  • Deliver a mix of BAU reporting, project-based analysis, and one-off data requests with a high level of accuracy and reliability for internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • Develop, enhance, and maintain interactive dashboards and reports using Power BI to support day-to-day operations and strategic initiatives.
  • Working with internal stakeholders to gather requirements and develop reporting.
  • Take ownership of recurring reporting processes, ensuring timely distribution and continuous improvement of reporting workflows.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline and automate data processes to improve efficiency and reduce manual effort.
  • Maintain clear documentation of reporting logic, data sources, and processes to ensure transparency and continuity.
  • Collaborate across departments to ensure consistent use of data and reporting standards.

TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS ROLE, WE WOULD LOVE YOU TO HAVE/BE:

  • Demonstratable experience as a Data Analyst or experience in a similar role.
  • Energy industry knowledge and a degree in a STEM subject.
  • Advanced Excel skills including PivotTables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, Power Query, and macros.
  • Strong proficiency in data manipulation tools and languages such as Python or similar.
  • Experience with data visualisation tools like Power BI, Tableau, or equivalent.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
  • Excellent organisational skills and a methodical, logical approach to work.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Understanding of data warehousing concepts and data governance.
