Job Title: Data center Support Engineer
Location: Jackson, MI 49201 (Travel to different sites is a requirement)

JOB SUMMARY:

The Data Center Hands and Feet Support Technician is responsible for providing on-site support to maintain and troubleshoot hardware and infrastructure within a data center environment. This role involves performing a variety of tasks including physical equipment installation, troubleshooting hardware issues, and executing remote instructions from off-site technicians.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent; technical certifications (e.g., CompTIA A+, Network+) are a plus.
  • Experience: Previous experience in a data center or IT support role preferred.
  • Technical Skills:
  • Basic understanding of server and network hardware.
  • Familiarity with cabling standards and practices.
  • Ability to follow technical instructions and diagrams.
  • Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to lift and move heavy equipment (up to 50 lbs).
  • Comfortable working in confined spaces and at heights using ladders.
  • Soft Skills:
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Attention to detail and excellent organizational abilities.
  • Problem-solving mindset and ability to work independently or in a team.
  • Work Environment:
  • Data center environment with controlled temperatures.
  • May require shift work, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
    On-call availability for emergency support

Responsibilities
  • Physical Support and Maintenance:
  • Install, move, and decommission servers, network devices, and other hardware components.Perform physical hardware inspections and troubleshooting.
  • Handle cabling tasks including running, patching, and managing cables.
  • Replace hardware components such as hard drives, memory modules, power supplies, etc.
  • Operational Support:
  • Assist in the setup and configuration of data center equipment.
  • Perform routine checks and maintenance tasks as directed.
  • Ensure proper labeling and documentation of hardware and cabling.Remote Assistance:
  • Act as the on-site presence for remote technical teams.
  • Execute remote instructions accurately and promptly.
  • Provide real-time feedback and updates to remote teams during troubleshooting and maintenance activities.
  • Site Support
  • Travel to the sites covered by this position based on the requirement, urgency and priority
  • Support the End Users with their physical connectivity issues
  • Monitoring and Reporting:
  • Monitor data center infrastructure for alerts and issues.
  • Report any discrepancies, malfunctions, or abnormalities to the appropriate teams.
  • Maintain logs of activities and incidents for reporting purposes.
  • Compliance and Safety:
  • Adhere to all data center policies and procedures.
  • Follow safety protocols to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
