REQUIRED EDUCATION:
Bachelor’s Degree
REQUIRED MINIMUM WORK EXPERIENCE:
Three years’ work experience in higher education fundraising, preferably as a development officer, or in a related position such as annual giving or donor relations and stewardship or comparable experience in non-profit fundraising, marketing/communication and public relations, university admissions, banking or corporate sales work.
Fundraising experience that includes identifying, qualifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding major gift prospects and donors.
ADDITIONAL DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Self-motivated.
Comfortable working with a wide variety of individuals and audiences.
Persuasive writing skills.
Demonstrated leadership ability in supervisory or other leadership role.
Responsibilities:
BRIEF STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
Plan and execute strategies for securing philanthropic commitments on behalf of Northern Michigan University. Identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit and steward major gift prospects. Research and prepare oral and written presentations for major gift prospects. Serve as the liaison/coordinator for college and departmental fundraising efforts. Responsible for maintaining a portfolio of major gift prospects ranging in size from 150-200. Identify and engage volunteers, alumni, staff and faculty in the fundraising process. Utilize a prospect management tracking system. Organize special events as relates to major gift prospects. Travel required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, OR ATTRIBUTES REQUIRED FOR SATISFACTORY PERFORMANCE OF THE POSITION DUTIES:
Ability to develop and implement successful engagement strategies that result in major gifts of $25K and above from diverse constituencies, backgrounds, cultures, religions, and abilities.
Ability to travel extensively.
Excellent interpersonal and listening skills, oral and written communication skills and ability to give presentations.
Proficiency in prospect management software systems.
Excellent time management, flexibility, tact, creativity, approachability and responsiveness.
