POSITION STATUS: Temporary Full-Time Contract

QUALIFICATIONS:

Must have a university degree or College Diploma in the Arts, Journalism, Media Arts, Communications or related field;
Must have a minimum of 3 years of progressively responsible communications experience in corporate and institutional settings, former experience in a political office would be considered an asset;
Must have the ability to travel to off site locations in a timely and expedient manner as required;
Must have some knowledge of municipal government processes, and how they interact with other levels of government;
Must have working knowledge in print, graphic and digital related mediums;
Must have exceptional oral presentation/communication skills, along with strong interpersonal and consultative skills;
Must have the ability to work independently, establish priorities, meet deadlines, work after hours when required, and at times may be called upon to assume the role as the mayor’s representative on certain issues;
Must possess strong assessment and organizational skills together with strong team building skills.

Responsibilities:

This position is responsible for the Office of the Mayor’s overall communication activity including the active promotion of Windsor’s momentous economic and population growth success story. Reporting to the Mayor’s Chief of Staff, responsibilities include the development of a proactive communications strategy and implementation plan to ensure defined objectives and goals are achieved in a timely manner; Working closely with the City of Windsor’s corporate communication team and city administration to ensure a coordinated approach to media and community engagement; Developing and maintaining a working relationship with members of the Windsor-Essex media and community groups and associations; Co-ordinating all communication activities from the Mayor’s Office including announcement planning, researching, writing, editing a broad range of materials including news/media releases, digital media, brochures, special event literature, etc.; Providing advice and assistance with the planning of special events; Developing a working relationship with members of City Council and city administration.
