We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Director, Research & Development to lead the Software team, Product team, Special Projects team, Quality Assurance team, and Project Management team in Regina, SK. The ideal candidate will have a background in agriculture, a proven track record of successful project management, and a passion for driving advancements in the field. If you are a leader with a passion for driving progress, this position offers an exciting opportunity to lead our R & D endeavors. This is an office first position from our location in Regina with some travel across Canada and the US.
QUALIFICATIONS
- 10+ years of proven experience in leading research and development projects.
- Strong leadership skills, technical and business knowledge.
- Strong customer service orientation and sensitive to the needs of a customer-facing environment.
- Strong analytical problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Excellent project management skills with a track record of successful project delivery.
- Effective communication and leadership skills.
- Ability to think strategically, consider big picture impacts and understand how to implement solutions and drive advancements across teams.
- Proven ability to think outside the box with demonstrated creativity.
- Can meet deadlines and deal with pressure, particularly during harvesting season.
- Be able to effectively coach, influence and convey the needs and strategic direction to all levels of stakeholders in a way that will enable lasting change.
- Captivating presentation and facilitation skills that engage and inspire.
- A valid passport is required.
What we are looking for:
- 10+ years of software development experience (desktop, mobile and/or web applications).
- Ability to translate product requirements into technical requirements.
- Experience with annual performance planning, goal setting and year-end reviews.
- Experience with professional development strategy and implementation.
- Experience with solution design and architecture.
- Experience with user experience best practices.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Experience in the Ag-Tech sector.
- Experience with tools like the software development cycle, google cloud platform, SQL, Jira, project management, hubspot, C/C++, etc.
- Experience in data science and/or business intelligence, especially experience with data warehousing.
- Bachelor’s Degree (or equivalent) in Computer Science or related field.

Responsibilities:
- Support and develop Managers who are hands on and experts in their field.
- Contribute to and manage the overall research and development strategy.
- Plan, organize, direct, control and evaluate daily R & D operations to ensure efficiency and productivity.
- Identify and evaluate emerging trends and technologies to drive advancements/improvements.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate research findings into practical solutions.
- Promote culture of teamwork and collaboration, sharing good practices including technical and business information with the team.
- Train, direct, and motivate staff to foster a culture of excellence and innovation within the
R&D team.
- Develop and manage budgets, timelines, and resources for R&D projects.
- Establish and maintain partnerships with industry experts and other key stakeholders.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards.
- Stay informed about the latest advancements in agricultural science and technology.
