POSITION OVERVIEW

The Disability Ally Trainer supports the PCCS Disability Ally Initiative training by facilitating and co-facilitating the training to a variety of different community members, developing partnerships within the community, and facilitating outreach efforts.

  • Curriculum Development: Assist with developing and editing training content to meet the needs of the audience being educated.
  • Delivering Training: Facilitating and Co-facilitating the Disability Ally Initiative training as well as other trainings including but not limited to self-advocacy, professional development, sexuality, etc.)
  • Assessing Training Needs: Identify gaps in knowledge and/or skills and determine what training is necessary to bridge gaps.
  • Community Engagement: Build and maintain relationships with community partners this includes but is not limited to community-based organizations, businesses, health care organizations, schools, etc.
  • Continuous Improvement: Assist with grant related work to fund training initiatives this includes ensuring grant measurables are tracked and met.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Keep detailed records of training activities, attendance, and outcomes. Maintain documentation to track partnerships and outreach.
  • Advocacy: Work alongside self-advocates in creating content, presentations, social media and outreach. Advocate for the needs and rights of people supported, ensuring they are receiving adequate services and support. Assist people supported with identifying additional resources and/or services.
  • Reporting: Ensure proper reporting, investigation, and review of all incidents relative to OPWDD Part 624 regulations and the New York State Justice Center.
  • Professional Development: Complete all mandatory and assigned trainings as needed. Take initiative in asking for support in areas needed for development and enroll in training opportunities to assist with accomplishing professional goals.
  • All other duties deemed necessary by the supervisor.

JOB SKILLS

  • Communication Skills: Ability to convey information clearly and effectively to different types of audiences.
  • Presentation Skills: Expertise in delivering engaging and informative presentations, making complex topics understandable and interesting.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Ability to connect with people, build rapport, and manage group dynamics, making participants feel comfortable and involved.
  • Age Requirement: Minimum age of 18.

EXPERIENCE:

  • 2+ years experience with public speaking, community relationship building, and training/curriculum development, required.
  • Lived Experience: Personal experience with disability, offering a deep understanding of the barriers and challenges faced by individuals with disabilities preferred.
  • Educational Qualification: Masters degree in related field (i.e., Social Work, Mental Health, etc.), preferred.
  • On Call:General flexibility, including ability to flex schedule, inter-borough travel, conference attendance out of state, required.
  • Drivers Status: Valid Drivers License, preferred.Ability to travel to various locations including outside of New York state, required.
  • Physical Demands: The nature of tasks may vary based on the individuals being supported. This may include assisting with toileting and hygiene, which could involve lifting. Reasonable accommodations will be considered to enable individuals with disabilities to fulfill essential job functions.
