Position: Discover Parks Ambassador (Wells Gray)
Reporting to: Assistant Manager, Discover Parks Ambassadors
Dates: May 21 to August 28, 2025
Schedule: Full time seasonal; 35 hours/week; 9am-4:30pm 3x per week; 1pm-8:30pm 2x per week
Job Location: Wells Gray (4.5 days per week)
Working at a computer in your home workspace (0.5 day per week)
Purpose: To excite, engage and educate park visitors

REQUIREMENTS

  • A love of the environment and the outdoors
  • Comfortable making presentations, talking to visitors, and leading tours
  • Experience leading groups in remote settings with no cell service
  • Enjoy interacting with large crowds and having lots of conversations, sometimes back-to-back, throughout the day. Some BC Parks get very busy, and your team might have 100+ conversations with visitors in a day
  • Experience working or volunteering with children
  • Ability to work in a remote environment, while staying connected with your team online
  • Driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle (4x4 an asset) for accessing the parks and moving program equipment. Must be comfortable driving on a dirt/gravel road
  • Personal computer with video conferencing capabilities and strong internet connection
  • Personal mobile phone
  • Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search (will be completed during the hiring process)

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE CONSIDERED AN ASSET

  • Fluency in additional languages
  • Wilderness first aid 40hr certification or higher
  • Post-secondary study in environmental sciences or outdoor education

ROLE DESCRIPTION

Discover Parks Ambassadors work in provincial parks across BC to create amazing experiences that inspire, educate, and empower people to appreciate, enjoy, and care for British Columbia’s parks and protected places. We are seeking energetic, motivated individuals with a deep respect for the natural environment to deliver educational experiences in Wells Gray Provincial Park, ensuring a welcoming and engaging experience.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Interact with visitors
  • Educate visitors on how to enjoy parks responsibly
  • Guide nature walks on Wells Gray’s trails (1-5 hours long)
  • Do your own research to become an expert on flora and fauna in your Parks
  • Run activities and games for children and families in Parks
  • Present daytime and evening family-friendly interpretive programs in parks
  • Learn existing Jerry’s Rangers programs and develop new programs
  • Promote iNaturalist to visitors
  • Monitor and report daily interaction statistics
  • Collect iNaturalist observations with a mobile device
  • Contribute to safe work environment
