ELECTRICAL TECHNICIAN

We have an exciting opportunity for an Electrical Technician to join the team at our Marchwood site on a part-time, annualised hours basis. In return, you will receive a rate of £23,014 pro rata.
We are a high-achieving college who attract around 2,800 sixth form students across the region each year. We are based within the stunning New Forest National Park and offer our students a huge range of courses and superb facilities.

Responsibilities as our Electrical Technician will include:

  • Supporting the Lecturing staff in the delivery of courses to students including advising students of techniques and demonstrating safe use of tools and equipment.
  • Preparing, setting up, clearing away and storing apparatus, building of test rigs, preparing workshops and materials for lessons, demonstrations, etc.
  • Maintain the electrical workshop areas and ensuring that they are in a safe and functional state.
  • Work collaboratively with the lecturers to complete the risk assessments for the electrical workshop
  • Issuing materials, tools, and equipment in a safe condition to students and staff
  • Assisting staff and students in the use of apparatus and equipment.
  • Occasional physical demonstration of machines to members of staff and students, where this requires the application of acquired skills.
  • Observing and emphasising safe working procedures and practices during the assistance and demonstration.
  • Simple, maintenance, fault finding, repair and servicing of equipment and where necessary, arranging repair via the Senior Technician.
  • Assisting in the development of new equipment, workshops under the direction of the senior technician.
  • Checking stocks of materials and placing orders with the senior technician for replacement and new items.
  • Complete the PAT testing for the Marchwood Skills Centre.
  • Complete risk assessments/SOPS as required by the Head of Curriculum/ Senior Technician
  • Assisting lecturing staff in preparation of teaching resources.
  • Assisting lecturing staff in the maintenance of a register for COSHH.
  • Assisting lecturers with storage and issue of books and materials.

As our Electrical Technician, you’ll ideally have the below skills & experience:

  • Educated to at least GCSE Level
  • Electrical Installations Level 2
  • Experience in workshop practices
  • Experienced Electrician
  • The ability to set up and monitor administrative systems and stock control.
  • Full working knowledge of Health and Safety
  • The ability to work at a practical level
  • Computer literate – Microsoft Office suite of software
  • The ability to work in a number of teams
  • Able to relate well to students with special educational needs
  • To be able to cope with rapidly changing circumstances
