We’re looking for an Engineering & Design Lead to join our Utilities team based in Falmer, Brighton to lead and manage engineering design delivery for assigned water projects on our new 7-year, c£1bn framework with Southern Water.
Location: Falmer, Brighton - remote working available, with weekly travel to the office required
Contract: Permanent, Fulltime
Salary: £75k - £83k + car allowance + private healthcare + benefits

Your day to day will include:

• Leading and managing engineering design delivery for assigned projects, spearheading and optimising the engineering assurance process for designs prepared by partner at outline design and capital delivery partners at tender and construction design, providing expert engineering support to the design, construction and commissioning process from project definition through to detailed design, construction, commissioning and handover of capital schemes
• Ensure that the Engineering Design team, design consultants and construction partners develop technically and economically proficient engineering solutions, developing and overseeing engineering project plans encompassing scope, schedule, cost, risk, and resources, producing designs, prioritising health & safety, environmental considerations, construction feasibility, and stakeholder needs, being the impetus to developing innovation and engineering excellence through the programme by leading partner forums and supply chain engagement
• Working collaboratively with other project functions delivering outcomes efficiently, seeking opportunities enhancing affordability and value throughout the design process, supporting project programmes achieving milestones and driving efficiencies, developing sustainable designs contributing to carbon reduction and natural capital enhancement, impacting risk management and value-driven outcomes
• Maintaining compliance with Construction Design & Management (CDM) regulations, managing design-related health and safety risks, identifying and address health, safety, and welfare issues within the team
• People / team development, providing clear leadership to the Project Design team, fostering a positive and inclusive environment, managing multi-disciplinary teams, including performance management and mentorin

RESPONSIBILITIES

As an Engineering & Design Lead you’ll be developing strategies including in-depth consideration of various alternatives and options, finding the best / preferred solution, ensuring that the design solution is fully understood by engaging with the client and then to use your experience of asset management to offer solutions. Fulfilling the role of main point of contact with the design consultants at Director level to ensure the correct level of technical performance. Services covering the counties of Kent, Sussex and Hampshire, including the Isle of Wight.

This role of Engineering & Design Lead is great if you have:

• Chartered Engineer status with a degree level qualification (or equivalent) in an engineering discipline with significant, proven relevant engineering design, construction and management experience
• Experience of managing and driving a multi-discipline technical/engineering team with a proven track record of driving sustainable performance against challenging business targets, able to influence people across multifunctional teams throughout the business, experience of working on multiple deliverables to project deadlines
• Significant knowledge of water and wastewater treatment processes and a full valid driving licens
