Description:

We’re one of the world’s largest manufacturers of water heaters and the brand leader in North America, China, and India. A.O. Smith’s Fergus Engineering group is looking for a technician/technologist to join their team. Working within the engineering division, this individual will be working hands on completing various performance tests on A.O. Smith’s various water heater brands. We’re looking for someone who is a team player, good with their hands, pays attention to detail, and has Engineering Technician/Technology diploma. Any gas technician training or work experience with water heaters or other gas products is an asset, fresh graduates are welcome to apply as training will be provided.

QUALIFICIATIONS

· Engineering Technician/Technologist Diploma
· OACETT accreditation is an asset
· Knowledge in the field of Energy Systems (Thermodynamics, Heat Transfer, Combustion), Fluid Mechanics (Pumps, Pipes, and Sizing), Space Heating as well as Instrumentation is an asset
· Use of multiple computer software applications to collect data and interpret data
in the form of graphs and/or calculate performance values
· Ability to operate a variety of power tools such as drill, micrometer, calipers, band saw, etc.
· Adherence to proper safety procedures and protocols within the lab
· Analyzing test data and interpreting results
· Works effectively both independently and as part of a team
· Operational knowledge of laboratory-grade analytical equipment such as Data Acquisition Modules, Combustion analyzers, digital manometers are an asset
· Good general problem-solving skills
· Ability to effectively communicate technical material to senior engineers
· Effective written & verbal communication skills

Responsibilities:

· Takes the lead on setting up and testing products based on the engineers’ protocols and test plans
· Calibrates equipment as needed
· Certification & Performance Testing
· Collects and reviews test data and communicates observations to engineers
· Reviewing Constructions, Drawings, Instructions, BOMs, and electrical schematics for compliance with CSA/UL regulations
· Reviews testing procedures periodically and recommends updates to the Engineering manager
· Provides regular project updates to the Engineering manager
· Other duties may be assigned as needed
