Job Summary
IWM’s remit is global and inclusive in its exploration of war’s impact on the lives of men, women and children, from 1914 to the present day.
Our collection of over 33m objects covers all aspects of conflict involving Britain, its former Empire and the Commonwealth, and includes art, film, photography, printed material, documents and sound.
Through our family of five museums in London, Cambridgeshire and Manchester, off-site programmes, and digital content, we explore the causes, course and consequences of war and promote understanding and empathy, by connecting diverse audiences with human stories of ingenuity, courage, sacrifice and resilience.
We are now searching for an Executive Director, Collections & Curatorial, to provide strategic leadership to manage, preserve, develop, and present IWM’s extensive collections, ensuring they continue to engage diverse audiences through permanent displays, temporary exhibitions, publications, digital platforms, and loans. The successful candidate will work in close collaboration with the Executive Director, Audiences and Public Engagement, to support IWM’s overarching purpose and vision.
They will oversee a team of over 150 professionals and be responsible for the stewardship of more than 33 million assets. As a member of the Executive Team, the Executive Director, Collections & Curatorial reports to the Director General, playing a pivotal role in shaping the future of IWM as a world-leading institution.
We seek an experienced and accomplished leader with proven collections or curatorial experience at a senior level. They have a history of developing and delivering innovative programs for diverse audiences. Strong strategic planning skills, financial acumen, and knowledge of corporate governance are essential, along with exceptional communication, management, and leadership abilities
