Description:
SUMMARY
As a Grower you will work with the Growing team in planning and directing day-to-day greenhouse operations, transplanting, and related production and growing tasks for all crops in assigned areas. You will coordinate with the Growing and Production team in the assignment of crop related tasks to production personnel ensuring completion of tasks in a timely manner and in accordance with Bevo quality standards.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Previous experience as a Greenhouse Grower
- Completion of a Degree/Diploma program in Horticulture or other agriculture related field
- Good communication skills
- Time and Priority management
- Ability to work under pressure
- Ability to work as a member of a team
Responsibilities:
- Establishes effective procedures to coordinate and manage through the Production Manager and the Head Grower, all aspects of seeding, preparation, sticking, pruning, fertilizing, watering, lighting, temperature control, etc. Monitors crops for problems related to the above including use of greenhouse equipment, space allocation and facilities. Repair or perform routine maintenance on equipment and/or coordinate the activities of various trades workers or mechanics as necessary.
- Performs routine detailed inspections of crops for timely identification of problems and growth control. When needed, acts to use plant growth regulators to rectify growth issues. Inspect the crop for parasites and fungi and take measures to prevent damage to the crop. Provides training to personnel to perform required duties and to ensure systematic back-ups are developed. Maintains and reviews with the Director of Growing and Head Grower the necessary records and corrective actions taken for quality non-conformance.
- In conjunction with the Greenhouse Supervisor, plans to obtain/assign greenhouse personnel to achieve proper labour force to workloads, training, ensuring adequate safety and supporting strong workforce motivation. Weekend turning shifts may be required depending on time of year.
- Maintains records and growth logs for climate settings, changes, spraying, biological introductions, irrigation cycles, and other information relevant to each product.
- Ensures sound hygiene and housekeeping practices are in place and maintained throughout the indoor/outdoor facility. Implements routine procedures to ensure safe working conditions and that Worksafe BC compliant working practices are understood and adhered to. Takes immediate actions on unsafe or improper work practices.
