  At Marvelous, we are raising a €100 million fund dedicated to addressing the ecological crisis through investments in DeepTech startups. At Marvelous, we are looking for a Head of Science who will play a key role in assessing and validating DeepTech climate solutions. You will conduct rigorous technical due diligence (DD) and support startups in scaling their R&D efforts. By bridging scientific expertise with investment insights, you will ensure that we invest in technologies that are both impactful and commercially viable.

Role Responsibilities

• Technical Due Diligence: Lead and conduct in-depth scientific assessments of potential investments, evaluating (technical) feasibility, risks, scalability, and validating technology readiness levels. Identify key technological risks and opportunities, ensuring startups have viable R&D and go-to-market strategies
• Investment Evaluation: Assess business models, long-term scalability, technological differentiators, and the commercial potential of scientific breakthroughs supported by a hypothesis-driven evaluation
• Portfolio Support: Guide startups in refining and scaling their R&D efforts, de-risking technology development, and navigating regulatory landscapes to align technology roadmaps with commercial viability
• IP Strategy & Research Viability: Work closely with founders on intellectual property (IP) strategies, patent landscapes, and freedom-to-operate analysis.
• Value Creation: Support startups in establishing partnerships with corporates, research institutions, and ecosystem stakeholders to facilitate technology validation through pilot programs accelerating their path to commercialization
