Job Description
The High Level Waste (HLW) Plant Engineer job family is responsible for technical activities relating to operations and maintenance of plant equipment during Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) and Commissioning and Operations. The Plant Engineer provides technical support and issue resolution needed for HLW Plant Operations, Plant Engineering and Maintenance program development and input for HLW and related facility design. The position also supports the HLW Plant Management team with technical evaluations, understanding of system operating principles, and represents the team with interfacing groups.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

(EFNM) Exposed Field Non-Manual- Performs desk work, including writing, computer workstation processes, and telephone operation. Arranges for and/or performs presentations, oral reports, planning meetings, and other formal and informal contacts, requiring long periods of sitting. Oversees field activities through inspections, testing and equipment operations, which requires walking, standing, bending, and turning along with wearing of personal protective equipment. Occasional loading, transport, and unloading of tools and/or supplies specific to an activity.

Responsibilities:

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES/TASKS

  • Implement HLW Plant Management program elements, as assigned
  • Develop, review, concur with and/or assess engineering technical documents
  • Develop, review, concur with and/or assess management control procedures, technical procedures, or guides
  • Assess facilities, systems, and/or process anomalies or degraded conditions
  • Resolve condition report issues or other similar discrepancies as assigned
  • Develop or request support to develop engineering products for system or equipment repair or replacement
  • Ensure the health and safety of self and staff by implementing the principles of ISMS
  • Ensure that personal conduct of work is consistent with nuclear safety and quality culture expectations
  • Meet training requirements and maintain qualifications to perform work
  • Support design, construction, operations, maintenance, and commissioning of the WTP HLW Facilities
  • Remain apprised of design status and ongoing modification activities
  • Provide technical review of facility/system related procedures and work instructions
  • Assist with resolution of design issues necessary to support plant operations and/or maintenance
  • Review Project design and other documents for operations, maintenance, and testing impacts and providing alternative solutions
  • Interface with subcontractors, vendors, and project support groups
  • Ensures timely and accurate oral and written technical reports on assigned activities
  • Complete required training and maintain qualifications associated with assignments
  • Support the Waste Treatment Plant Nuclear Safety Quality Culture by emphasizing the values of safety and quality in the performance of work to protect self, others, and the environment

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Education: Bachelor of Science degree (or equivalent education) in Chemical engineering discipline or related science from a four-year accredited college or university.
Experience: Minimum of five (5) years of professional experience. Experience in system engineering in an operating plant preferred, including experience with monitoring and troubleshooting system performance issues, determination of optimal maintenance strategies based on system functional importance, and evaluation/development of necessary design changes to correct deficiencies or optimize performance. Experience in processing facilities, DOE facilities, High Radiation area Remoteability and preparation of System Design Descriptions at DOE facilities also preferred.
