We are seeking a Hydrologic Forecasting Engineer to join our Water Resources Department. Under the direction of the Hydrology
and Climate Section Head and Physical Hydrology and Inflow Forecasting Lead, you will undertake inflow forecasting, FEWS
development and maintenance, physical hydrology and watershed modeling studies to support various corporate initiatives.
Activities include inflow forecasting, hydrological model development and maintenance, forecasting framework development and
enhancement, meteorological analysis, and climate change impact/adaptation studies. Will work closely with other modelling teams
to undertake specialized hydrologic and watershed modelling studies.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A four-year degree in Civil Engineering from a university of recognized standing plus six years of work experience with one

year of experience related to hydroelectric utility operations or hydrologic modelling.

  • Professional member in good standing with Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba (or willingness and ability to attain within a

specified amount of time).

  • A M.Sc. or Ph.D. in water resources engineering is an asset.
  • Experience in the area of hydrology and hydrologic runoff modelling.
  • Experience in using hydrologic models and issuing inflow forecasts.
  • Experience with WATFLOOD, HEC-HMS, and/or Raven hydrologic models.
  • Experience in using and configuration of Delft-FEWS.

Responsibilities:

  • Primary role in providing physically-based flow forecasts for short- and mid-term hydropower operations and other corporate

business functions.

  • Primary role in implementing physically based watershed models for streamflow forecasting and assist with the development

for long-term water supply forecasting.

  • Primary role in implementation and maintenance of the corporate operational forecast framework system.
  • Support the set-up, calibration, validation, and maintenance of hydrological models for Manitoba Hydro’s hydraulic system.
  • Support the technical and engineering staff to ensure quality assurance and quality control of hydrometric and climate data

used for hydrologic modelling and reporting.

  • Perform other hydrological assignments that include statistical analysis, streamflow hydrology, meteorological and streamflow

analysis.

  • Maintain technical competency and awareness of new developments and applications in hydrology, hydrological modeling,

climate change, atmospheric science, and inflow forecasting and incorporate this knowledge in day-to-day activities to solving

hydrologic assignments.

  • Collaborate with other utilities, consultants, researchers, and universities in developing and implementing innovative

hydrologic modeling tools.
