IT & DIGITAL SERVICES MANAGER

Barnard Castle School is seeking a talented individual to lead the operational IT team in our dynamic and supportive community. For over 140 years, our school has been at the forefront of co-educational excellence, providing a whole-school journey from Reception to Upper Sixth that nurtures young minds, builds character, and inspires ambition.
Barney is a Microsoft 365 environment supporting over 750 users of all ages from staff to pupils. We are currently on the journey towards a 1:1 ecosystem with a mix of Surface devices and traditional laptops. Our classrooms are furnished with interactive touchscreen displays. Our network uses a backbone of Meraki networking and Wi-Fi. The school runs on a Hyper-V virtualized environment that is split over 2 nodes and runs regular disaster recovery duplication and back-ups to our server. The IT Department runs on an agile approach to support and working. Traditional classrooms have evolved, and staff and pupils can work from anywhere with their devices.
Alongside the expansion of 1:1 devices to all Senior School students, we are expanding the IT support team, allowing more time for the staff in the team to focus on customer service, CPD, and strategic planning. We are fully committed to resourcing the team so that the IT service can develop proactively to meet the ever-changing needs of the school. This post is currently supported by a Senior IT Technician and an IT Support Technician, and we are committed to expanding the team further as our network grows.
The IT & Digital Services Manager is responsible for ensuring that all IT systems, digital services, infrastructure, and IT staff are future-ready, secure, and effectively managed. Working under the strategic vision set by the Director of Digital Strategy, the role ensures that technology solutions consistently align with the school’s educational and operational goals.
