POSITION OVERVIEW

Salary range: A reasonable estimate for this position is $53,100 at Step 1

POSITION DESCRIPTION

Dr. Camelia Hostinar in the Psychology Department at the University of California, Davis seeks to fill a full-time research coordinator position at the Junior Specialist level beginning August 1, 2025. The position will have duration of 1 year. The successful candidate will work on research projects investigating stress psychobiology.
The research assistant will have the opportunity to acquire and train in several important research and intellectual skills using a variety of psychological tools, as well as perform lab management duties.
Responsibilities/Opportunities

Research 60%:

  • Assisting with data collection with child participants and their parents (e.g., administering paper-and-pencil questionnaires, collecting saliva samples; taking height, weight, and hip/waist measurements; processing serum samples from whole blood collected by the phlebotomist; conducting Life Stress Interviews in person or via Zoom). The position involves direct interaction with children and families.
  • Maintaining human subject protocols and consent forms and communicating with the IRB.Maintaining laboratory equipment and performing regular checks (e.g., freezer, eyewash station).

Professional Competence 30%:

  • Recruiting and scheduling research participants by phone and email.
  • Purchasing laboratory supplies and maintaining a clean, well-organized laboratory environment.Contributing to peer-reviewed scientific manuscripts in the form of relevant literature review, data analysis, and scientific write-up. There will be opportunities to publish abstracts and present scientific results at local and national conferences.

University and Public Service 10%:

  • Providing training and mentorship to undergraduate research assistants and volunteers.

QUALIFICATIONS

Basic qualifications (required at time of application)
A bachelor’s degree in the arts, sciences, or a health-related field.
Prior experience conducting psychological research with children and adolescents.
Previous experience with data analysis and stress research.
Excellent interpersonal skills and good writing skills.
Excellent organizational and time management skills.
Proficiency in computer skills (Microsoft Excel & Word, Google Calendar, Google Voicemail).
Preferred qualifications (other preferred, but not required, qualifications for the position)
Exposure to some analytical software such as SPSS or R.
Experience with Institutional Review Board (IRB) approved protocols.
Ability to conduct occasional weekend research sessions with participants.
