Description:
EDUCATION:
Masters’ degree in experimental Physics or an equivalent of 5 years recent experience (defined as within the last six years) working at York University and performing the same or similar tasks. This education equivalency is in addition to the experiential requirements outlined below.
EXPERIENCE:
Five (5) years’ related experience, including at least two years’ experience in a physics laboratory such as graduate research. Laboratory research experience is required. Intermediate experience with systems software such as LabVIEW and Python is also required.
SKILLS:
In-depth knowledge and experience with electronic circuitry, data acquisition vacuum technology, lasers including atomic trapping, computer-interfaced experimentation and machine-shop experience as relevant for experimental physics, biophysics and astronomy
Basic spreadsheet skills
Comprehensive knowledge of laboratory safety and operating procedures
Ability to deliver prompt and courteous service when dealing with others, excellent oral and written communication skill
Strong ability to multi-task and exercise good judgment. plan and execute complex tasks under pressure of deadlines
Ability to work independently and as part of a team. prioritize own work and work of others
Knowledge of government safety guidelines
Ability to establish and maintain an effective relationship with staff, faculty and students
Responsibilities:
To sustain the general operations of the graduate and undergraduate laboratories by providing excellent technical service essential to the achievement of the educational and research objectives of the department. To evaluate, modify and carry out experiments and to maintain, troubleshoot and perform basic repairs on complex laboratory equipment.
