WORK ARRANGEMENTS
This regular part-time (24 hours per week) 8-months repeating term position is available starting August 26, 2024. Regular hours of work are Monday – Friday, exact hours per day TBD. Hours may be increased on a per semester basis depending on operational needs. Shift days and times may change depending on the Department’s need. Occasional evening and/or weekend work may be required. The position is located at the New Westminster campus; however, successful candidate must be available for occasional work at the Coquitlam campus. Responsibilities:
THE ROLE
To provide technical and logistical support in the operation of the Biology laboratory including the preparation of activities, materials and displays, subject to the curricula approval of the Biology faculty, supporting Lab Facilitators in their laboratory preparation duties for 2nd and 3rd year courses, and coordinating the maintenance, care and control of laboratory equipment and supplies.
4. PERFORMS OTHER RELATED DUTIES.
a. trained in Biosafety for safe work operations in CL2 level labs as per PHAC’s guidelines;
b. maintains currency in relation to college biology courses.
TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN THIS ROLE YOU WILL NEED
- Good working knowledge of the English language (written and verbal),
- A good working knowledge of the course content, operation and routine maintenance of laboratory equipment and apparatus, and of modern techniques pertaining to the instruction of Biology courses at the first and second year level or equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Excellent working knowledge of safety measures related to the operation of a biology laboratory, including GHS regulations.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate courteously and effectively in person, in writing, and over the telephone with students, faculty, administrators, staff and the public.
- Ability to maintain current knowledge in the field of Biology.
- Proven ability to effectively demonstrate proper laboratory techniques.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently with a minimum direct supervision as well as establish priorities and achieve deadlines.
- Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality.
