DESCRIPTION

Deep Woods Estate, established in 1987, is located in the northern corner of the premium wine-growing region of Margaret River in Western Australia and focuses on the production of super premium wines from the region. Annual crush is approximately 1,600 tonnes focusing on Margaret River’s strengths of Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Rosé, as well as many interesting varieties on the side.
Reporting to the Senior Winemakers, we are seeking a Lab technician to join our team and be part of an ambitious, fun-loving environment. Working closely with the winemaking team, the role will involve performing all lab operations, equipment calibrations, reagent preparations and maintaining lab records. The ideal candidate will possess prior lab experience, excellent communication skills, enthusiasm and strong work ethic, be a team player and have exceptional attention to detail. A full- time casual role exists starting in August, leading into a permanent position for the right candidate, which will include extended hours/shift work throughout the yearly harvest period.

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Carrying out all wine analysis as required, including Enzymatic analysis
  • Maintain records of all juice and wine analysis, and ferment analysis during the busy and exciting vintage months.
  • Work closely with winemaking team and provide trial and blending support
  • Preparation and standardisation of Standard Solutions and Reagents.
  • Calibration of Laboratory Equipment.
  • Data entry
  • Maintaining and improving food safety and quality and environmental systems
  • Management of cellar and laboratory stock and additives including traceability and ordering
  • Upholding high standards of laboratory hygiene and housekeeping
  • Occasional cellar work as required, mainly focused on wine preparation for bottling

The successful candidate will be required to possess the following:

  • Prior lab experience
  • Valid drivers licence and reliable car
  • Ability to work extended hours during the peak of vintage (Monday to Saturday, 6am - 6pm)
  • Australian permanent residency or valid working rights
