York Law School is seeking to appoint x2 lecturers in Law either on the teaching and scholarship (T&S) track or on the academic, research and teaching (ART) track to join and contribute to the distinctive learning and teaching environment we offer.
We are looking for applications from persons who have an interest in innovative approaches to teaching law to join our team.
For the T&S track, we welcome applications from persons with interests in any aspect of law, but are particularly keen to invite applications from persons with experience of teaching the skills of professional legal practice and SQE and ability to take a lead role in the development and delivery of our clinical legal education modules.
For the ART track we are looking for scholars in any area of law but we are with strengths in environmental, healthcare and public law
As the only Law School in the UK to base our undergraduate degrees on problem-based learning (PBL), we offer a distinctive and dynamic approach to teaching and learning. We teach the foundation subjects of legal knowledge (public law, the law of the EU, criminal law, obligations, and property including equity and trusts) through PBL in an integrated set of modules in years 1 and 2, with students learning the law through working on scenarios spanning more than one of the foundation subjects. We host the Baroness Hale Law Clinic, which provides a base not only for teaching but also for ethnographic and socially aware research into law. You will join a friendly, collegial, and close-knit community of teachers and researchers, and will benefit from a high degree of support from colleagues at all levels.

SKILLS, EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATION NEEDED

• An undergraduate or postgraduate degree in the law of England and Wales and a PhD in Law (awarded or close to submission)
• Expertise in research and teaching in the area of environmental, healthcare and public law
• Specialist knowledge in subject area of law of a level adequate to design & develop teaching programmes and the provision of learning support across different levels of academic activity
• Ability to develop research objectives, projects and proposals
• Show commitment to the department/university outside of their chosen field, for example undertaking management and administration duties
• Collaborative ethos

SKILLS, EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATION NEEDED

• Postgraduate degree in law of England or Wales or equivalent professional legal experience
• Extensive knowledge in law, in particular in the Foundations subjects for England and Wales or SQE subjects
• Ability to design & develop teaching in undergraduate or postgraduate law programmes and the provision of learning support across different levels of academic activity
• Particular ability to design and deliver learning activities and content to support the delivery of Foundations subjects for England and Wales, professional legal skills or for SQE subjects
• Experience in teaching and learning in the law of England and Wales at undergraduate or postgraduate level or in an evidenced similar context such as professional legal development of lawyers
• Collaborative ethos

ROLE

• To develop research objectives, projects and proposals and carry out individual or collaborative research projects.
• To lead on and/or contribute to the production of research outputs and research outcomes.
• To design, develop and deliver teaching across a wide range of modules and/or within a particular programme or subject area.
• To undertake effectively a range of administrative and managerial responsibilities.

ROLE

• To lecture, lead seminars, problem-based learning and professional legal skills workshops, tutorials and other forms of undergraduate and postgraduate teaching
• To develop teaching and learning activities in the School and deliver learning activities on professional legal skills and SQE modules and through the supervision of students on clinic modules.
• To carry out ongoing curriculum review, including teaching content and materials and contribute to the development of teaching and learning strategies.
• To undertake effectively a range of administrative and managerial responsibilities.
