Purpose of role:
This role reports to the Head of Brand Change and Innovation within European Spirits category.
The BC&I Team for European Spirits Category manage one of the most complex liquid, format, and Supply chain portfolios within our business, given the emerging technologies that we are working within.
The European Spirits BC&I pipeline is a complex matrix of pipelines across different Spirit Categories/Brands/Markets/Innovation Hubs, executed through a diverse Supply Footprint including Diageo production sites, JVs, and several Third-Party Operations across Europe and LAC.
Latin America & the Caribbean is a rapidly evolving region. This landscape evolution is closely tied to a significant focus on innovation and brand change, which, in turn, demands strong technical support and expertise. It’s at this stage that the role becomes crucial for Diageo, serving as the pivotal link to initiate all plans related to the development and commercialization of liquids, whether in spirits or RTDs. This involves executing a ‘concept to commercialization’ approach for liquid formulations while adhering to the Brand Legacy Framework for each brand.
To deliver an effective outcome, the Liquid Development Specialist must ensure partnership with Brand Change & Innovation teams, Global and local Marketing teams, R&D teams, Regulatory teams, Global Technical team, Supply & Procurement teams, Production Sites, TPOs, Diageo Technical Centers, and external Suppliers.

Top Accountabilities:

  • Compliance. Deliver processes that ensure the Health and Safety of our consumers. Work in a way that ensures compliance with our Diageo Code of Business conduct (H+S, HMRC, Financial compliance, etc.).
  • Technical Capabilities. Achieving a brilliant execution requires that the Liquid Development Specialist master, guide and make the right choices based on strong knowledge and judgment of liquid processing, formulation, sensory, analytical and microbiological aspects.
  • Liquid Project Delivery. The Liquid Development Specialist is fully accountable for leading successful liquid Batch Trials and First Productions that meet the specifications, all hand in hand with our TPOs and/or own sites across Latin America & the Caribbean.
  • Stakeholders Management and Consultancy: as the liquid expert, the Liquid Development Specialist must lead and guide the teams to reach the goals that ensure brilliant execution. It includes Diageo internal network, i.e., Brand Change & Innovation teams, Technical Centers teams, Supply & Procurement teams, etc; and Diageo external network, i.e., the Third-Party Operators technical teams, ingredients suppliers, etc.
  • Sustainable and cost-efficient project delivery. The Liquid Development Specialist is also accountable for delivering liquids and processes that are respectful with the environment, but also profitable for the organization.
  • Ingredient and supplier qualification: all ingredients and suppliers must be qualified according to Diageo standards. The Liquid Development Specialist shall lead and ensure that all meet the requirements.

Entry Level Requirements – Capabilities, Skills & Experience:

  • Degree qualified with a relevant science or engineering degree plus at least 2 years of experience in food manufacture. Food Technology or Chemistry backgrounds with experience in food & beverage development and production (i.e. processing, microbiology, flavours, legal requirements, packaging, market research, etc.) are a strong plus.
  • Knowledge of the science and technology of distilled spirits production including co-products and process control.
  • Knowledge of Diageo’s products and processes.
  • Knowledge of production operation and management.
  • Knowledge of Regulatory and C&E implications.
  • Experience in change and project management.
  • Ability to move from research to commercialization phase.
  • Good networking abilities.
  • Sensory training to describe and discriminate among alcoholic beverages.
  • Analytical and microbiological knowledge.
  • Application of innovative scientific or technical knowledge.
  • Understanding customer and business needs and preferences.
  • Cultural awareness, ability to flex communication style and excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Team player with proven interpersonal skills. High energy, proactive, strong work ethic with demonstrated ability to lead by example.
  • Fluency in Spanish and English is a must. Fluency in Portugues is a plus.
  • Ability to work in a complex market, with different cultures and needs.
