Description:
This is an exciting opportunity to work in CTMUHB’s Freestanding Birth Centre in The Royal Glamorgan Hospital, Llantrisant.
If you have a passion for supporting women who choose to birth in Tirion (FMU) this is the perfect opportunity for you.
Tirion actively supports women and families in the antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal period, supports families on their feeding journey with the option attend Tirion post birth for breastfeeding support and offers a range of antenatal education classes to women and their birth partners.
Undertake basic care duties.
Enable patients to maintain personal hygiene through assistance with shower/ bath, washing facilities access and use of toilet facilities promoting independence where possible.
Escort patients/clients to other departments/ hospitals.
Keep up to date with mandatory training requirements.
Maintain a good standard of cleanliness in the ward including changing bed linen in accordance with organisational policies.
Support midwives in providing a safe quality maternity service.
Assist Midwives in providing antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal care.
Assist new mothers in caring for their babies.

Develop communication skills in order to convey routine information effectively to patients, carers and other staff, overcoming any barriers to understanding and providing support during distressing or emotional events.
Communicate clearly, effectively and appropriately with the multidisciplinary team.
Respond appropriately to routine queries, take phone messages and pass on written and verbal information to patients and staff.
Provide relevant information to patients, family/visitors/carers and colleagues.
Accept constructive feedback from colleagues.
Give constructive feedback on patient care and activities to relevant healthcare professionals.
Participate in discussions about patient care and ward/departmental development, at team meetings.
Alert midwife/nurse promptly of changes in the patient’s condition.
Identify potential risks for all staff, patients and visitors and adhere to relevant incident reporting procedures taking appropriate action/advice as needed.
Be required to use a degree of initiative in undertaking routine tasks and will alert qualified staff of any potential problems.
Be required to plan their own workload that is delegated by qualified staff using a degree of initiative in prioritising their time to meet the needs of patients.
Possess standard keyboard skills.
Manoeuvre trolleys, wheelchairs and other equipment safely around the ward environment.
Undertake manual handling of patients (using appropriate mechanical aids) and in accordance with Manual Handling policies and procedures.
Assist in preparing the patient/client and environment for moving and handling, arranging modes of transport e.g. Summoning porter staff to transport patients/clients to different departments.
Enable patients/clients to achieve physical comfort assisting in minimising client discomfort and pain through providing conditions to meet patients /client’s needs for rest.
Enable patients/clients to eat and drink through choosing appropriate food and drink, as well as enabling patients/clients to prepare for eating and drinking, assisting whenever appropriate.
Enable clients to maintain their personal hygiene through assistance with using the shower/bath, washing facilities, access and use toilet facilities, collecting and disposing of bodily waste and ensure security, privacy and dignity is maintained during this procedure.
Be expected to participate in basic care following appropriate training e.g. teaching new parent’s preparation of bottles for artificial feeding.
Assist in breastfeeding including skin to skin/positioning and attachment/hand expressing.
Assist women with the care of their baby, including nappy changing and demonstration baths.
Carry out theatre duties as required, escorting mothers to and from theatre, preparing and attending for obstetric surgery in accordance with theatre protocols.
Order, replenish and ensuring effective rotation of sterile stocks and non-sterile stocks.
Carry out urine testing and recording.
Undertake observations as designated by the midwife i.e. Blood pressure/Pulse/ Temperature/Sats monitoring and record on MEWs chart.
Assist with removing catheters and cannulas with direction from the qualified member of staff.
Report adverse signs to the registered midwife/nurse.
Provide clinical support to Midwifery staff in theatre following a period of training and completion of obstetric theatre competencies.
Follow CTMUHB policies, protocols and guidelines.
May be required to maintain adequate levels of stock, equipment and materials and facilitate the efficient, effective use of resources; report when availability falls below an acceptable standard or level.
Ensure safe custody, return or disposal of patients’ property, in accordance with organisational policies.

Attend organisational induction programmes, mandatory training sessions and annual updates.
Take part in reflection and appropriate learning from practice, in order to maintain and develop competence and performance.
Collect/record data accurately in accordance with organisational guidelines.
Contribute to research, audits and clinical trials programmes carried out within the ward or department under direct supervision.
Make sure that all women receive an evaluation of care form, prior to transfer home.
Work under direct supervision of a registered midwife/nurse or senior member of staff
