Austin Health is the major provider of tertiary health services, health professional education and research across 3 campuses in the northeast of Melbourne and state-wide. Austin Health is world-renowned for its research and specialist work in cancer, liver transplantation, spinal cord injuries, neurology, endocrinology, mental health and rehabilitation.
We are currently seeking a casual Laboratory Scientist to work in our pathology laboratory located at Swan Hill Hospital.

Your duties will include

  • Performance of Blood Bank tests include group and antibody investigations and the preparation of blood and blood products as required
  • Perform a wide range of Haematology and Biochemistry tests by automated and manual methods according to documented procedures.
  • Assist with specimen processing as required.
  • Participate in quality improvement activities
  • Operate and maintain all instruments and equipment in accordance with documented procedures
  • Maintenance and promotion of safe working practices
  • Ability to organise and prioritise workflow to meet the company’s and client’s requirements.
  • Ability to supervise and perform POC testing as required.
  • Interpretation, reporting and issue of laboratory results in accordance with documented procedures
  • Evaluate quality control data and institute appropriate corrective action within established guidelines
  • Compliance with NPACC supervision requirement for staff working in a Category B Laboratory
  • Participation in solo shifts and on call as required
  • Reporting of blood film morphology including paediatric patients
