Description:

The Merchandizing Supervisor provides leadership in the development, training and maintenance of effective and attractive merchandise displays to maximize profitability of the stores. They will also assist in all areas of the Thrift Store’s operation including: the efficient and effective reclamation, processing, or distribution of warehouse goods; quality customer service; and customer engagement.

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Completion of a formal post-secondary/college program of one academic year (training specific to design and/or merchandizing is preferred).
  • Licensed Forklift Operator an asset.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driver’s abstract.
  • Alternative combination of education and experience will be considered.

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLED KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS

  • Two years of related experience.
  • Able to work on computers and engage comfortably with word, excel, outlook and teams.

  • Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.

Responsibilities:

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide positive and courteous service to customers
  • Assist in developing and implementing store layout plans to attract customers including window displays and merchandise displays; Arrange and display sale items
  • Train and supervise staff and volunteers at both stores on how to follow merchandizing plans/ strategies, and upkeep the displays in their absence
  • Visit other stores to gain new ideas and strategies for merchandizing in order to attract customers, including new customer bases
  • Assist the store manager in determining appropriate pricing structures
  • Assists the store manager with the annual PEAC process
  • Assists with the procurement of brand new merchandize to sell in the stores
  • Keep stock rotated as per schedule or as directed by Store Manager
  • Oversees inventory management by monitoring daily reports, monitoring shrinkage, monitoring, stock in each department, creating sales and following market trends
  • Work with volunteer coordinator to train and supervise volunteers
  • May receive, sort, store, and price donations as per directions and standards
  • Accurate opening and closing of store procedures when required, including POS terminals and till
  • May process donated items by unloading, sorting, packing, storing, bailing and reloading the donations
  • Participates regularly in Thrift Store Leadership Team meetings
  • Will be called upon to participate in, contribute to and lead segments of Thrift Store staff meetings.
  • Lead room layout and décor for other ministry related activities (e.g. volunteer appreciation, mission partner annual gatherings, special events, etc.)
  • Ensures overall compliance with all policies and procedures including safety procedures by implementing and monitoring Health & Safety policies and best practices.
  • Ensures sound and gracious donor relation practices are consistently exercised and that policies and procedures regarding donation refusals/turn-aways, etc. are implemented effectively to ensure items received support revenue generation.
  • Lifts and relocates bags and boxes to determined areas as required. Assists with heavy lifting as required
  • Climbs ladders and stores seasonal product in overhead storage bins
  • May operate the forklift to move goods as necessary after sufficient training
  • Shares janitorial duties in common spaces such as washroom and kitchen
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
