We are a well-established SME building contractor with approximately £10M turnover and 80–100 directly employed staff and subcontractors. Our projects span social housing refurbishment, adaptations, retrofit, and general construction.
We work closely with local authority and housing association clients, delivering high-quality, safe, and compliant projects. As we continue to grow, we’re looking for an Operations Manager (Construction) to strengthen our delivery capability and lead our construction team to even greater success.

ABOUT YOU

We’re looking for someone who is:

  • An experienced Senior Project Manager, Contracts Manager, or existing
  • Operations Manager ready to lead a busy construction team.
  • Highly organised and focused on structured delivery.
  • Strong on Health & Safety, with solid knowledge of CDM and best practice site management.
  • Skilled in coordinating teams and labour planning, moving away from reactive to planned approaches.
  • Commercially aware, able to work effectively with QS and Finance colleagues.
  • Able to build trust with clients, colleagues, and subcontractors.
  • Adaptable, solutions-focused, and motivated to drive improvements.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

  • SMSTS (or equivalent site management qualification)
  • NEBOSH or IOSH Managing Safely
  • NVQ Level 6 (Construction Management) or equivalent
  • First Aid at Work certification
  • Familiarity with project planning software (e.g., Microsoft Project)
  • Evidence of continuing professional development (CPD)

    Pay: £55,000.00-£65,000.00 per year

Responsibilities

THE ROLE

As Operations Manager (Construction), you’ll oversee the delivery of all construction projects across our business—from mobilisation to completion. Reporting to the Managing Director, you’ll lead the project management team, improve organisation and resource planning, ensure safe and compliant delivery, and drive consistent project performance.
This role is hands-on, strategic, and essential to our future success.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversee day-to-day delivery of all construction projects, ensuring they meet programme, budget, quality, and safety standards.
  • Directly manage key projects as required, setting delivery standards for the team.
  • Chair the fortnightly Construction Team meeting, reviewing progress, programme, risks, resources, and commercial issues.
  • Provide structured summaries and risk analysis to the Managing Director.
  • Lead weekly labour planning discussions and take ownership of our labour allocation process to improve forward planning and reduce reactive changes.
  • Conduct regular site visits to review safety, quality, progress, and site management performance.
  • Ensure effective coordination between Project Managers and Site Managers.
  • Drive improvements in 4–6 week forward resource planning and delivery processes.
  • Collaborate with QS and Finance teams on cost control, trends, risks, and subcontractor onboarding.
  • Provide assistance and operational input within the tendering process as required.
  • Ensure Health & Safety compliance, promote a strong safety culture, and maintain awareness of changes in legislation affecting operations.
  • Deliver consistent and compliant operative inductions for all new starters.
  • Ensure office and site teams adhere to company policies and processes, updating and amending these as necessary.
  • Support wider compliance initiatives (QA, ISO) as workload allows.
