Description:
ABOUT US
Diamond Light Source is one of the world’s most advanced scientific facilities. We’re home to the UK’s synchrotron light source – a giant microscope producing beams of light 10 billion times brighter than the sun. Probing the structure and composition of matter, our work drives innovation in everything from vaccines to nanotech.
At Diamond we are currently undertaking a major upgrade of the facility, known as Diamond-II. Diamond-II will combine a new machine and new beamlines with a comprehensive series of upgrades to optics, detectors, sample environments, sample delivery capabilities and computing, which will ultimately generate an even more brilliant light source at a higher energy.
Responsibilities:
We now have an opportunity for a Optics Scientist to join our well-established Optics and Metrology Group to work on development and application of X-ray optics simulations based on geometrical and physical optics. The job will include working on several aspects of X-ray optics including optical design, specifications, procurement and testing of optics for beamlines. There would be opportunity to participate in X-ray optics related research and development projects, and to pursue own research projects in that area.
Further duties include:
- Providing support to the beamline scientists in the optical design and commissioning of beamlines to make beamlines operate at optimum levels.
- Developing and using software codes for simulating beamline optics to ensure latest optics modelling tools are available for designing beamlines.
- Producing reports to disseminate the results from X-ray simulations and measurements to scientists at Diamond.
