The People & Culture Manager is a dedicated partner to the Major Infrastructure team and will support their strategic business plan. The successful candidate will provide professional human resources guidance, support and coaching, and will anticipate possible business challenges and strategize solutions to achieve business objectives. This position reports to the Senior Director, People and Culture, East Canada.
The main client group for this position is in downtown Toronto and Mississauga, and the position will require in-person support (hybrid model).

What You Will Be Working On

  • Align the Major Infrastructure business plan to the P&C Strategy.
  • Provide support to operational leadership teams to ensure they have the resources and advice necessary to make informed decisions.
  • Support and collaborate with leaders to ensure that employee matters are proactively diagnosed and addressed in a positive and productive manner.
  • Support the talent review process for Major Infrastructure to ensure the proper actions are in place to support employee’s career growth and development.
  • A true hands-on approach as well as the ability to successfully monitor the “pulse” of the employees to ensure a high level of employee engagement.
  • Lead and guide the annual engagement survey process to create action plans that address the team’s unique needs.
  • Participate and support the year-end compensation cycle.
  • Provide consultation with leaders regarding compensation-related matters, including salary/merit recommendations and/or promotions.
  • Partner with our internal payroll team to ensure any changes to our employees’ compensation are captured flawlessly.
  • Liaise with and support the Centers of Excellence People & Culture Team to ensure strategic alignment across all areas within the people and culture function.
  • Act as a liaison for business to ensure information is communicated to functional (COE) HR to inform strategy, program design, and planning.
  • Develop a rapport with employees to promote trust and open communication.
  • Maintain current knowledge of provincial laws and regulations to ensure the company remains committed to fair employment practice, in addition to determining how pending legislation can impact the human resources field and the employment landscape.
  • Communicate and ensure understanding of applicable legislation, regulations, and organizational policies to managers and employees as needed.
  • Support a consistent, one-team unified approach demonstrated through delivery of HR principles, practices, and policies.
  • Lead workplace investigations with the support of our internal legal team.
  • Provide guidance and support on employee matters including, but not limited to, policy interpretation, respectful workplace concerns, conflict in the workplace, and/or corrective action
  • Understand the site/field level environment to be able to provide ideas and solutions that address business needs.
  • Support the onboarding and offboarding process for your client group.
  • Support organizational changes via a proactive change management approach.
  • Participate in P&C projects and initiatives that benefit the organization.
  • Support of other lines of business may be required from time to time.

What We Are Looking For

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Psychology or related degree
  • CHRP designation will be considered an asset
  • 7+ years in human resources with 3+ years in a senior HR Partner role. Construction industry or related industry is an asset
  • Experience with an HRIS (e.g., Workday)
  • Experience dealing with sensitive, complex, and highly confidential employee situations (e.g., harassment, performance management, salary review and recommendations, etc.)
  • Fluent knowledge in provincial laws and legislation as it applies to employee related situations
  • Ability to travel as needed to job sites and other provinces
  • Ability to translate plans into implementation with well-developed skills in organizational capability and change management, as well as written and verbal communications
  • Ability to partner, impact and consult with Executives, team members and People & Culture professionals across the organization
  • Ability to react quickly to changes, while keeping alignment with long term direction
  • Motivated by complexity and challenges; energized by evolving, exciting environments
  • Ability to forge, grow and maintain positive relationships with multiple groups
  • Ability to work within tight deadlines and prioritization of work to achieve them
