ABOUT US

The Strategic Policy Division supports the Minister of Children, Community and Social Services (MCCSS) to define and achieve its mandate for change, impacting Ontarians in need through the programs and services that support them.
The Policy Research and Insights Branch supports the Strategic Policy Division by assessing academic and community research and evaluating and synthesizing evidence based on insights drawn from data analytics and trends. The Branch also collaborates across Ministry teams in the development of a strategic research agenda, mobilizing knowledge of policy best practices and fostering innovation and calculated risk-taking in social policy development. The Branch fosters a long-term and future orientation to policy work by collaborating across Ministry teams in the development of a strategic research agenda. The evidence and insights from the Branch support the full range of policy development, alignment and delivery planning work of the Strategic Policy Division.

RESEARCH, EVALUATION AND ANALYTICAL SKILLS

  • You have qualitative and quantitative research and analysis skills to support policy development
  • You can identify current and emerging issues and maintain awareness of new developments and trends in social policy
  • You can process and distil information from a range of sources, including research and scientific data, trends analyses, and independent research, to develop insights and recommend options for resolutions

PLANNING AND ORGANIZATIONAL SKILLS

  • You can plan, organize, and manage multiple tasks with competing deadlines

COMMUNICATION SKILLS

  • You can effectively convey complex information in a simple and objective manner to various audiences through written and visual presentations.
  • You can create, lead and present research findings to senior management

Responsibilities:

Working within a team, in this role, you will:

  • Conduct mixed methods research and analysis, including environment and jurisdictional scans, to support evidence-based decision-making
  • Support development of policy options/recommendations based on research and analysis
  • Support development of knowledge products including reports, papers, briefing notes, and information notes
