The Department of the Senate is seeking applications from those interested in directly supporting the work of the Senate and senators in Parliament House, Canberra.
These opportunities sit within the Procedure and Research Section which provides a range of services to support the Senate and senators. Its key activities include providing legislative drafting support and procedural advice to non-government senators and their staff and producing and publishing a range of procedural and parliamentary information and resources.
SENIOR PROCEDURE AND LEGISLATION OFFICER
The Senior Procedure and Legislation Officer is responsible for drafting amendments to legislation, preparing private senators’ bills and conducting research to provide advice about the operations of the Senate in a fast-paced environment. As such, familiarity with legislation and the legislative drafting process is desirable. In addition to providing legislative assistance to senators, the Senior Procedure and Legislation Officer researches and develops procedural resources for publication on internal and external web-based platforms. The Senior Procedure and Legislation Officer may also assist with the organisation and delivery of information seminars on the work of the Senate and complete other project work as required. As the Senior Procedure and Legislation Officer will be required to liaise directly with senators and their staff, the occupant of the position will have excellent interpersonal skills, attention to detail and an ability to work at a high standard.
