TEN Recruitment are in partnership with a growing and successful construction company. Due to growth they are now looking to add a Project Accountant to their team. Reporting directly to the MD this role is focused on cost control and reporting and would suit an individual with a solid background in the construction industry with working knowledge of the various phases of construction projects.
Working with Project Managers this is a senior role, reporting directly to the MD, with two indirect reports. It would be well suited to a senior accounting professional.
Your primary responsibilities will include:
- Collaborating with the Project Manager to develop a detailed, cost-effective budget for the project utilising construction software.
- Monitoring the progress of projects, investigating variances, approving expenses, and ensuring that project billings are issued to customers and payments collected
- Conducting comprehensive analyses to fine-tune cost control and efficiency, optimising resource utilisation and project management.
- Preparing actual costs, working capital, and tax reports as well as project reports to stakeholders.
- Overseeing trades and subcontractor accounts. Reviewing budgets and expenses, conducting financial analysis to identify gaps.
- Developing and maintaining strong relationships with vendors and suppliers. Onboarding new suppliers, subcontractor negotiations, and preparing subcontractor documents including terms and contracts.
- Performing accounting duties throughout the project, such as preparing invoices, estimating cash flow, and signing off on purchase orders. Running reports along the way and analysing transactions.
- Monitoring receivable income and supporting project managers with collections. Issuing invoices and POs, as well as paying consultant, subcontractor, vendor, and supplier bills.
- Approval / receipting of supplier invoices and debit note management
- Maintaining all financial and invoicing aspects of variation requirements
To succeed in this role, you should possess the following qualifications and skills:
- Minimum tertiary qualification of a Bachelors degree in Accounting or Finance
- 3+ years experience in an accounting role
- Experience in the construction industry and working knowledge of construction projects the build process
- Excellent knowledge of construction cost accounting and related financial procedures
- Competency with Project Software (Procore / BuilderTrend)
- Competency with Xero
- Certificate in Construction Accounting is desirable
- Strong mathematical and analytical skills
- Meticulous attention to detail
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- True team player able to work as part of a cohesive project team
