Job description
Salary: £36,155 per annum
Department: Policy and Campaigns
Location: London
Hours: Permanent post, 35 hours per week
RNIB’s award-winning Policy and Campaigns team works to remove the barriers faced by blind and partially slighted people in everyday life.
As Public Affairs Officer, you’ll be part of an ambitious, creative and dynamic team. You’ll be representing the voice of blind and partially sighted people to politicians and the UK Government, inputting into RNIB’s public affairs strategy and managing RNIB’s parliamentary activities.
We’ve had a lot of success in Parliament and we’re looking for the right candidate to help take our work to the next level, sharing in our ambition to make a world that works better for blind and partially sighted people.
This is a full time, permanent post, working hybrid, with an expectation to be in Westminster and/or our office in London (a short walk from King’s Cross) approximately 1-2 days a week.
Responsibilities:
As our Public Affairs Officer, you’ll be committed to ensuring lived experience drives and is embedded in the work you do. Working closely with the Campaigns and Public Affairs Manager, you’ll help to shape and grow our public affairs function, including managing activity with our RNIB MP Champions.
You’ll look for opportunities to influence through meetings, mailings, briefings and imaginative events, making the best use of RNIB’s considerable expertise.
We have exciting aspirations in the public affairs space, which have meant an increase in resource in recent years and the scope to do game changing work. We have a team of Regional Campaign Officers, meaning you’ll be able to work across the Policy and Campaigns team to deploy people at a local level to drive understanding and bring local knowledge to MPs across England. You’ll work with colleagues in devolved nation teams to ensure we have effective content for MPs in the Nations, mindful of context.
You’ll have a proactive attitude and an ability to engage MPs and peers effectively and imaginatively on our policy and campaigns priorities, managing competing streams of work on a wide range of topics, from accessible voting to safer railway platforms and vision rehabilitation services.
You will also be maintaining and managing records to maximise our public affairs impact, and making RNIB the first choice for parliamentarians seeking information about sight loss.
