Description:

Functioning as a team player, the Medical Laboratory Technologist (Pathology) will support all staff in the provision of quality laboratory services to assist physicians and other health care providers in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of disease. This includes performing quality laboratory testing according to legislative requirements in the following specialties: Pathology and associated specimen hangling. The Medical Laboratory Technologist will focus on continuous monitoring and improvement of practices in order to meet or exceed our patient/client needs and will support the mission, vision and values as determined by Niagara Health while providing safe and competent patient/client care. The successful candidate’s home site will be the Site listed above, and must be willing to work at two or more sites.

QUALIFICATIONS:

o Graduate of an accredited Medical Laboratory Technology Program
o Current registration as a Medical Laboratory Technologist with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario with license to practice relevant specialties (Pathology) in Laboratory Medicine
o Two years related clinical laboratory experience in the past five years in a similar hospital environment
o Working knowledge of processing medical laboratory specimens
o Applies knowledge, skills, judgment and competencies required for safe, independent and inter-disciplinary practice by meeting professional standards as outlined by the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario and related professional associations
o Applies Niagara Health values and professional practice standards to patient/client care and service
o Integrates reflection, critical thinking, education and relevant practical experience in problem solving
o Working knowledge of computers, Laboratory Information Systems and other related Hospital systems
o Proficiency in both official languages (English & French) will be considered an asset
o Consistent and regular attendance required
