The CMB UK Financial Institutions (FI) is a sector-specialist team which services both domestic and international clients with a client base spanning the different Non-Banking Financial Institutions (NBFI) sub-sectors: Asset & Wealth Managers, Insurance, Funds, Fintech and Specialist Financials.
We support clients with the full range of products across Credit & Lending, Global Payment Solutions (GPS), Markets & Security Services (MSS), Global Banking (Structured Finance Group/DCM/ECM,LAF) Given the global nature of the clients serviced out of this portfolio, the high profile generated from the sector and strategic ambition to grow our international and collaboration revenue streams, the role offers excellent exposure to teams and stakeholders across the bank globally.
We are currently seeking an experienced individual to join our team as a Relationship Director. The role holder will be responsible for a growing and maintaining a client portfolio of Financial Institution clients.

Principal Responsibilities/Accountabilities:

  • Developing effective strategies to manage customer relationships, anticipate customer needs and provide a superior quality service to position HSBC as the market leader in this segment.
  • Grow sustainable revenues from the existing customer portfolio and through targeted acquisition of new quality customers.
  • Ensure proactive relationship building/customer contact plans and pipeline management for both existing and new customers.
  • Proactively grow international/cross border revenue.
  • Keeping abreast of external factors influencing international business e.g. economic, cultural, geographical, procedural, and regulatory requirements.
  • Monitoring relationship performance regularly to ensure that the return is commensurate with the type of customer and both CMB’s and the customer’s risk appetite.
  • Collaborating with product partners to identify and match customer needs with relevant expertise; notably with Global Payment Solutions (GPS), Global Banking & Markets (GBM), and Global Private Banking (GPB).
  • Establishing an effective working relationship with the Risk Management teams, in order to validate the accuracy of the customer risk profile.
  • Delivering fair outcomes for our customers and ensure own conduct maintains the orderly and transparent operation of financial markets.
  • Contributing to the development, implementation and maintenance of a management information, analysis and reporting framework that supports and informs timely and effective business management and decision making at all levels.

Requirements

The ideal candidate for this role will have the below experience and qualifications:

  • Knowledge of the NBFI sector will be a strong advantage, particularly with regards to key credit risk and financial crime risk drivers for companies in this space.
  • Good knowledge of and proven exposure to a broad range of banking products and services, across Credit & Lending, GPS, Global Banking (SFG / DCM / ECM / LAF) and MSS.
  • Proven experience of business development and origination across both flow / transactional banking as well as event opportunities is essential.
  • Demonstrated interest and /or credentials in sustainable finance would be beneficial.
  • Built effective networks across business areas, developing relationships based on mutual trust and encouraging others to do the same.
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills with experience of successfully influencing others, negotiating effectively is essential.
  • A comprehensive understanding of risk management of all kinds and proven experience of ensuring own/others’ compliance is essential.

This is a hybrid position based at 8 Canada Square, London. There is an expectation of the working week comprising of home and office working, along with travel to meet with clients.
Whilst the client base is largely based in London, there may be a requirement to travel nationally on occasion.
