Key Job Purposes:
The School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (MAE) is seeking to hire a Research Fellow to carry out research on mechanics of collective behaviors of living cells under various environmental stimulations. In particular, he will look into the behaviors of contractile cells such as C2C12 skeletal muscle cells, and determine how extracellular environment will affect the morphology of multi-cellular constructs. He/she will collaborate with other Research Fellows, Research Associates, Project Officers, as well as students including Ph.D. and Master’s students, undergraduate students, visiting scholars and researchers in the group. The RF will be responsible for designing experimental research on mechanics of plants and plant morphogenesis cause by mechanical stimuli including, but not limited to, plant leaf shape formation/morphing, biomimetic structures/devices based on shape morphing principles learned from plants. Furthermore, the PO will explore potential applications of the research findings in various fields including, but not limited to, soft robotics, morphing space structures, and sensors/actuators.
The RF may also involve in research proposal writing. The RF’s role encompasses research leadership, mentorship, and collaboration within a multidisciplinary research environment to address major scientific challenges in plant mechanics and morphogenesis.
