Description:

TEACHING ASSISTANT (SEMH SUPPORT)

Location: Littlehampton
Hours: 08:15 - 15:15 (Mon, Thur, Fri), 16:15 (Tue, Wed)
We are looking for an energetic and resilient Teaching Assistant to work with children in Littlehampton who have Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. This role requires someone with strong behaviour management skills and a proactive approach to engaging pupils. Candidates with backgrounds in behaviour management, sports, or active roles are often highly successful in this position.

ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE/ATTRIBUTES:

  • Experience working with children who have SEMH needs or behavioural challenges.
  • Strong behaviour management skills and resilience in managing challenging situations.
  • A DBS check registered on the update service or a willingness to obtain one.
  • An active, positive approach to engaging with children.
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team.
  • Ability to stay calm, adaptable, and responsive to students’ needs in various situations.
  • Knowledge of the school’s safeguarding and behavioural policies.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Qualifications in education, behaviour management, sports, or a related field are beneficial but not required.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct support to children with SEMH needs, helping them manage their behaviour and engage positively in school activities.
  • Follow established behaviour and care plans to support each student’s individual needs.
  • Build strong, trusting relationships with students to create a safe and encouraging environment.
  • Use an active, hands-on approach to engage students in learning and development.
  • Monitor and provide regular feedback on students’ progress and behaviour.
  • Collaborate closely with teachers and staff to create a positive and structured classroom setting.
