Job Description
The Senior Design Manager will report to the Turner & Townsend Project Director internally and the client representative at a project level. The incumbent will be based in Abu Dhabi, UAE and working on a large Water transmission and distribution Programme.
The Senior Design Manager will act as the key, day to day client interface, ensuring that client objectives are met from a design management perspective.
We are looking for an enthusiastic self-motivated individual who has excellent written and verbal communication skills and who wants to make a difference to the Design Management division.

Key responsibilities

  • Advising the client as to the requirements and obligations in the creation and development of a design.
  • Ensuring the design process adheres to current legislation, standards and codes of practice where appropriate.
  • Ensuring all designs are produced in line with the project’s timescales and are of the best quality.
  • Monitoring preparation of specifications and commenting on same.
  • Chairing and preparation of Design and Design Coordination Meetings including preparation and distribution of minutes and Design Action Register whilst ensuring Design Team respond to meet programme requirements.
  • The design team with respect to Safety in Design and timely preparation of Design Risk Assessments.
  • Working with the designers and supervision consultant to agree the standards required with respect to mock-ups.
  • Working with the Client and designers with respect to selection of materials, which may involve undertaking overseas visits.
  • Initial response to Contractor Notices requesting additional supporting information, as appropriate, prior to the Design Team and Supervision Consultants responses to Contractor Notices, including review and challenge, prior to preparing draft Determination for submission to Employer.
  • The performance of the supervision consultant and “design guardians” with respect to quality and timeliness of responding to contractor submittals.
  • Mitigating, monitoring and reporting on design risks throughout project including status of Authority Approvals

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum 10 years plus Design Management experience
  • Degree in engineering, construction management or an equivalent technical qualification
  • Experience of working on large Water transmission and distribution Programme.
  • Minimum of 5+ years’ experience working in the Middle East region is advantageous.
