Company Overview Joby Flight Research designs, develops, and flight-tests novel aircraft using a software-first autonomy approach. We build and deploy autonomy, perception, planning, and radar systems across conventional, electric, and hydrogen-electric aircraft in both CTOL and VTOL configurations. Overview Joby is seeking a talented Electrical Engineer to join our team designing aircraft avionics! This engineer will work closely with software, systems, mechanical and other cross-functional teams. You'll be taking ownership of key electrical subsystems and printed-circuit-boards from design through prototyping and to product. This is a hands-on position. Optimizing designs for reliability, weight, and efficiency will be essential. Responsibilities In the first few weeks: Get to know the team and the aircraft Get familiar with the electrical and avionics system architecture Help support hardware and software test In the First 6 months: Design, test and bring-up a well-scoped piece of avionics equipment that will support our aircraft and test assets Support writing Software for hardware in the loop testing Support Flight Test through seeing an avionics design through to aircraft integration Within a year: Take ownership of a piece of avionics equipment, driving key component and PCB design choices Support electrical system architecture trade studies Support flight test activities by helping troubleshoot flight test aircraft Support certification activities with electrical loads analysis, electrical power design and requirements generation & validation Required B.S. in Electrical Engineering or related discipline 6+ years of working experience in relevant industry Strong understanding of electrical fundamentals and best practices Power conversion (linear and switching regulators) High-speed digital design and layout Signal conditioning and conversion (ADCs, filters) Discrete semiconductor design (FETs, BJTs, Diodes) Schematic capture and PCB design Experience with electrical component selection Hands-on experience with building and debugging hardware Great communication skills This position must meet US export control compliance requirements, therefore a candidate must qualify as a “US Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15. “US Person” includes US Citizens, lawful permanent residents, refugees, or asylees. Desired Advanced degree in relevant discipline Proficiency with ECAD programs such as Altium Designer, KiCAD and EAGLE Design-for-reliability, including use of DFMEA and fault trees Designing for high EMI environments Competency with MCAD programs such as CATIA, Autodesk and Solidworks Competency in embedded Linux, Python and C++ Compensation at Joby is a combination of base pay and Restricted Stock Units (RSUs). The target base pay for this position is $156,700 - $202,570/yr. The compensation package will be determined by job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
