Job Description
Fugro is now seeking a Senior Geotechnical Engineer to join the Client Deliverables Department based in Wallingford, Oxfordshire, United Kingdom.
The Senior Geotechnical Engineer will manage and lead complex offshore and onshore projects which ensures field, laboratory, soil parameters and engineering deliverables prepared by other staffs in accordance with company procedures, health and safety and quality policies, project specifications and industry standards. It is also required to develop and to implement various technical solutions, and responsibility for one or more of the advanced and highly technical areas that Fugro performs.
Whilst this role is predominantly office based, some travel and offshore site work will also be required, typically less than 30 days per year working aboard a drillship, both in UK and foreign waters.

Who you’ll be working with:
This role will require you to work offshore and onshore with other engineers. You also need to work alongside colleagues from various departments (e.g. laboratory, project manager, quality, health and safety, commercial etc.).

Here’s what a typical day would be like:

  • Act as site manager and/or team leader (offshore), and technical lead (onshore) on complex site investigation projects;
  • Develop technical solutions according to the client requirements;;
  • Leading and managing project deliverables, budget, schedules and performances;
  • Plan and conduct technical assignments (e.g. ground characterisation, developing soil parameters, selecting, performing and checking engineering analyses) at project level;
  • Produces and approves field, laboratory parameters and engineering reports;
  • Recommending and implementing improvements in various operational areas;
  • Supervise and provide leadership to a team consist of engineers and participate in performance management processes.

Who we’re looking for:

Essential

  • Undergraduate and/or postgraduate degree in civil engineering, engineering geology or geology or related discipline,
  • Advanced knowledge of in situ and soil or rock data acquisition including soils and/or rock description and testing, and reporting;
  • Good knowledge of geology and soil mechanics;
  • Proven experience of managing large geotechnical projects and detailed engineering analysis;
  • Associate membership of an appropriate professional body and preferably having professional chartered status;
  • Computer literate and advanced ability of using spreadsheets and plotting software;
  • Ability to generate a safe and quality-based culture within the offshore and onshore teams;
  • Excellent communicator (i.e. verbally and written) to deliver the results for internal and external clients;
  • Proven ability to lead and working with the team.

Desirable

  • Enhanced knowledge of soil and/or rock laboratory testing and foundation engineering issues;
  • Experienced in leading, managing and building a team.
